I see Jordan a lot because of Alessa, but I know the rest of BreakNeck well enough. We’ve met their girlfriends too. They’re all down to earth and friendly. I know they’re going to treat Adrestia the same way they treat everyone else. Well, except for Alessa, she is still grilling her.

Nick Chambers, the bassist for BreakNeck, is sitting on the sofa. He’s deep in discussion with Jenna, his lead singer’s fiancée. Nick’s girl, Elsa, sets up the cards and chips. She always acts as the dealer when the women are here.

My brother and Ciro are sitting next to each other, already at the table. Ciro is sitting back, looking as moody as ever, holding a beer. Dylan is chatting away not caring if Ciro is listening or not. When they spot me, everyone shouts hello.

Walking up behind her, I give Alessa a look that says, go away. She side eyes me, glances at Adrestia, then leaves us alone.

“Sorry about her,” I say.

“It’s fine, I like her.”

“Really?”

“She doesn’t hide who she is, and didn’t ask me anything too intrusive.”

That makes me frown. What the hell did she ask her? Adrestia doesn’t look as if she is going to say. She is none the worse for the chat, so I let it go.

“You’re like two peas in a pod then,” I grin.

She hums, but she’s smiling. “So, this is Jordan Adair’s place? You kept that quiet.”

“Thought it might scare you off.”

“It is overwhelming,” she glances around again. “They’re rock legends.”

“They’re just people, trust me.”

An arm comes down on my shoulder, startling me. Jordan moves between me and Adrestia, tugging me into his side. He gives me a wink, then turns to her.

“You’re new,” he smiles.

“Here, yes,” she agrees.

Jordan’s smile widens. He reaches out a hand and introduces himself. She tells him to call her Tia as they shake.

“You play poker, Tia?”

“Yes, not often, but I enjoy it.”

“Excellent. As you’re a newbie, I put the money up for your first round.”

“You don’t need to do that.”

“House rules,” he says and doesn’t wait for her to answer. “Excellent. What can I get you to drink?”

She looks over at me.

“I’ll give you a ride home, don’t worry,” I assure her.

Jordan lists off all the drinks on offer, and Adrestia requests a beer. I ask for the same. “Be right back,” he says and goes to get the drinks.

We head to the poker table and Adrestia takes a seat next to Dylan. I introduce her to my brother and Ciro again. I have to hand it to her. She’s taking it all in her stride. Not in the least bit starstruck.

Jordan hands over our beers, then disappears into the kitchen. I think Alessa is out there. Nick and Jenna get up and join us at the table. Dylan asks where Adam is.

“He’s visiting his parents in White Plains. I have work early tomorrow so couldn’t go. So, how did you two meet?” Jenna asks me.

Adrestia gives me a quick look, and I shrug. I’m happy for her to tell them the weird way we met. Jenna hangs on every word, her eyes widening at parts.
