“I need some space,” he says.
My heart almost breaks. He says nothing else, then he walks away.
Chapter Twenty-Nine
The music cuts off and I look up at my brother standing in my bedroom doorway.
“What is this?” Dylan’s voice slices through the fog in my head. “This place is a fucking pigsty.”
“Stop exaggerating,” I mutter from the seat in the corner by the small window.
His eyes move over the room, looking like he’s about to lose his mind. His hands are twitching at his sides. Yeah, okay, the place is a bit of a mess. I came home from the park the other day and threw a few things around, and I’ve not picked them back up. But fuck, I am allowed to be pissed. I thought our relationship meant more than Adrestia did. I thought she was different, not out to use me the same as every other groupie.
“Have you been drinking?”
“Are you going to lecture me, Mom?”
“This isn’t you.” Dylan can’t help but pick up some clothes, folding them as he talks.
“Gonna get a lock on my door,” I grumble.
“What’s going on? You’ve been like this for two days. You missed the meeting and Declan is pissed at you. What the fuck is going on?” Dylan sets the clothes on the dresser, looking at me.
“Nothing,” I mumble, drawing my eyes away from his probing gaze.
“Yeah, you acting like a serious douche is nothing.”
Did I finish that vodka? I can’t see the bottle anywhere. Not that I am drunk. There was only a quarter of the bottle left when I grabbed it. Getting shit faced in times of crisis isn’t my thing. Is this a crisis? Am I pissed with her, or am I pissed with myself for not seeing it? For two days, I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this. I’ve fallen for someone who I don’t even know.
I’ve sat in my room running over our conversation, shutting everything else out, trying to figure out if I missed something. My heart and head have been warring with one another. She was trying to tell me something else. But I can’t get past what she did.
And maybe I was rash walking away without hearing her out. I saw red. I saw Riley all over again, telling me she cheated on me. Which pissed me off even more because I still had to deal with the fact Riley sent that fucking picture. Not just sent it. For her to have got that shot, it had to have been orchestrated. She was on my lap for all of eight seconds before Pippa pulled her off. No one could have seen that, got out their camera and took a picture in that timeframe.
Which is why I’ve avoided the band meeting, because the first time I see her, I might just tear into her. Which isn’t the best way to handle it.
Women are fucking killing me right now.
It hurts more thinking of Adrestia. Thinking I only know her, because she came to that audition to get laid and didn’t care who by.
“Nash.”
“What?” I don’t bother lifting my head to look at my brother.
“You came back from your morning date with Tia and have been acting like a fourteen-year-old girl ever since. Did something happen?”
This asshole sees everything. It’s fucking irritating when you just want to be left alone. When you don’t want to explain that the woman you are falling for broke your fucking heart. So soon after the last one. And was using you the whole time.
“I’m not leaving till you tell me, so you might as well just get it over with. What happened?”
Dylan is the only person I would ever talk to about stuff like this. He won’t judge or make fun of me. He may not be able to help, but he’ll try.
“She’s just like all the rest of them.”
“Who, Tia?” he looks confused. “The rest of who?”
“Women, fucking bitches.”
“Shit, Nash. I might not know her all that well, but Tia seems so far removed from a bitch. It’s kind of comical you could even say that.”
