I blinked up at the ceiling as I came back down to my body and then I had a moment of clarity that made me wish like hell that I hadn’t. I’d just had two orgasms in front of my neighbors while they tried to help me, as it was their job to do. Shame and horror hit me like a lightning bolt and I cringed away from them.

They were all completely silent and no one stopped me as I crawled up the bed to curl in on myself in the far corner of my bed. “I am so sorry. I don’t… I’m just sorry. I think—”

“Eve.” Nash’s voice was husky and when I glanced up at him, I saw he had the dildo in his hand and that they were both covered in my juices.

I jumped to my feet and yanked on a pair of shorts before I grabbed Nash and dragged him with me to the kitchen. I shoved his hands under the tap and pried the dildo from them. I was radiating heat with how embarrassed I was but that didn’t stop me from squirting soap onto his hands. I scrubbed his fingers individually and didn’t stop until he was soapy up to his elbows. The whole time, I muttered how sorry I was over and over again while he just stared down at me in silence.

When I finally felt like he was clean, I rinsed him off and dried him. Staring at my feet, I wrapped my arms around myself and stepped clear of the front door, in case they wanted to flee. “I’m incredibly sorry. I don’t know what else to say. Should you file a complaint or something?”

Aiden laughed but he tried to cover it with a cough. “Um, no. No, we shouldn’t file a complaint. Maybe against Tate for turning the alien dick on, but no, Eve, you did nothing wrong.”

I snorted my disbelief and rubbed my face. “Agree to disagree.”

Nash rested his hand on my shoulder and the heat doubled down that arm. “There’s nothing to worry about. We didn’t get called out in an official capacity so there’s no need for paperwork.”

I looked up at him in horror. “There could’ve been documentation of this?”

“Don’t worry. We left our body cams at home.” One side of his mouth lifted in a smirk. “Kidding. We don’t have cams.”

Not knowing what to do with myself, I wrapped my arms around my waist and stared at my bare feet. “Well…thank you.”

“Don’t be a stranger, Eve. You can come out and say hi instead of just peeking from your window.” Tate walked over to the door and looked at his friends. “Let’s go.”

Aiden nodded at me with a secretive grin on his face but Nash lingered. He stood in front of me and looked down with so much curiosity in his gaze I almost took a step back. Whatever he was going to say, he seemed to think twice. “We’ll need to fix your door. We’ll keep an eye out tonight but lock your bedroom door.”

I nodded. “Sure.”

He stared at me for a second more before nodding and walking out. Watching him leave gave me a closer view of the back I’d been ogling for months. The simple t-shirt stretched across his shoulders should have been a crime. I’d seen what he looked like without a shirt, as he chopped wood in the side yard, closest to my window. There were a whole lot of muscles and tattoos playing under that shirt I desperately wanted to see up close. Too bad for me I’d just made the biggest fool of myself. Not that he’d be interested anyway. And not that I was interested.

As soon as I was alone, I jumped in the shower and scrubbed myself raw. I wanted to pretend like the horrible alien dick event had never happened, so after showering I threw all of the sex toys and the cursed lube in the trash can, knowing I’d take it out before Grandpa came back. Then, I turned the CD player off, blew out the candle, and stood in the middle of my room frowning because I could still feel them there.

My ringing phone broke me out of that weirdness and when I answered, I saw it was Billie Myers calling. I needed the distraction in a giant way but wasn’t sure I could face anyone. I spun in a tight circle, my mind struggling to come to terms with what had just happened, before my eyes landed on Tate’s t-shirt I’d tossed on the end of my bed. “Hello? Billie?”

Within a minute of her asking if I wanted to come have drinks with her and Brad Flowers, I was sneaking out the front door and leaving Tate’s neatly folded t-shirt on top of his truck. Then, as silently as I could, I got into my car and shut the door. I didn’t take the time to buckle up until I was at the end of the shared driveway. I couldn’t face my neighbors ever again. It just was what it was.

CHAPTER 5

Eve

I looked over at Brad as he drove us away from Billie’s house. “Well, that was fun.”

He scowled. “We shouldn’t have left Billie with that asshole.”

I glanced out the back window at Billie’s house and smiled. I had a pretty good idea Billie was going to be getting her rocks off by the time we reached the highway to Last Chance. One of her bosses seemed to have the hots for her in a major way and judging at how he’d scooped Billie up and carried her inside, he was going to have his way with her. Judging by the way Billie lit up when she saw him, she was going to love it.

“I think she’s fine. Sorry your plans got crashed, though. You weren’t exactly subtle tonight.” I’d endured too much time watching him flirt with Billie. No matter how many swigs I took of the whiskey they passed around, I couldn’t ignore the way the sexual energy made me think of my afternoon.

“You always did tell it like it was. Except about Billie’s dad. I didn’t expect that.” He laughed, already over losing his shot at Billie. “How are you doing anyway? Billie said you moved back to help take care of Sheriff Hank?”

I clenched my hands together between my knees. “Yeah. He’s okay, though.”

“Touchy subject?”

I blew out a shaky breath and reminded myself Brad had been a decent friend at one point in my life. “Yeah. I’m sorry, Brad. You know Grandpa has always been everything to me. Seeing him struggle isn’t easy.”

He nodded. “I get it. Is there anything I can do?”

“Can you make a stubborn old man go to the doctor and then do as the doctor says?” I rested my head against the window and stared up at the darkening sky. “You didn’t just come back for Billie, right?”
