I nodded. “She was the only friend I had there. It was a strange place. When shit hit the fan, I couldn’t just leave her.”
She grunted a laugh, and my eyes went wide. What was funny?
“Yep. Falcon’s got it bad.”
My brow drew together in confusion. “I don’t understand.”
“He not only grabbed you but let you bring her. Technically Eagle outranks him, but Falcon can be persuasive. Should’ve been an Enforcer if you ask me.
“A what?”
Mama Hen looked out the window then stood and walked to me, holding her hand out. I grabbed it and she pulled me from the sofa, looking down at my bum foot before locking eyes with me. “You’ll learn all the important stuff soon. But don’t you worry, hon.” She squeezed my hands as she tipped her head toward the window where I saw Falcon walking up the stairs. “He’ll take care of you.”
As she hugged me, I melted against her. When the door opened and his hazel gaze seared into me, I started to really believe what she said about him.
At least I wanted to.
Chapter 18
Falcon
After collecting Daisy from Mama Hen, I took her back to the clubhouse and got her a table. Some of the guys cooked dinner and if you were up early enough you could find breakfast, but lunch was usually a free-for-all. Mostly because of everyone’s schedules.
I rummaged through the fridge in the kitchen and made us both a turkey sandwich and grabbed some chips. One of the bunnies was getting her water from the bar when I stepped back out of the swinging doors from the kitchen.
Daisy’s brows raised as she looked down at the plate I put down in front of her. I took a seat next to her and she glanced over with a suspicious look. I took a big bite of my sandwich without peeling my eyes from her.
“Thank you.” Finally, she picked up her sandwich and started eating.
Mine was gone in just a few bites, so I grabbed her water and drank half down before tearing open a bag of chips and leaning back in my chair, popping them in one at a time.
“That was my water,” she said, still holding half a sandwich in her hands.
I just grinned and kept eating my chips. She was mine, so her water was mine. But I’d give her a few days before we had that discussion.
She rolled her eyes and we sat quietly as she finished her sandwich. She wiped her hands off with the paper towel I brought her, then put it on her plate. Since she was done from the looks of it, I reached over and grabbed her chips.
“Hey!” she yelped and tugged the bag from my grip. “Those are mine, too.”
I leaned in closer and looked over her face. She was even more beautiful without the stage makeup and fake lashes. Those blue eyes burned with intensity as she stared me down. “You were done.”
“I don’t care. Can’t you ask before you take them?”
Everyone’s eyes turned toward us. The two bunnies that were behind the bar leaned on their elbows and watched. She was new here and they all wanted to see how I’d react. Frankly, I liked that she didn’t kiss my ass. “Darlin’, last time I checked, this food came from the club kitchen. So it’s not yours, now is it?”
She glared at me and pulled the bag open then pulled a chip out, popping it in her mouth. After she swallowed it down she said, “You gave it to me. That makes it mine. If you want some, you can ask for it.” Then she put another chip in her mouth.
The smirk on my face grew wider as my dick twitched. “Good to know.” She wasn’t afraid of me. Even when she tried to sass me before it was all show. Now, her demeanor was different; relaxed. And she wasn’t the first to look away. “That’s real good,” I said as I dragged my hand over my beard. I was going to have to get her to tell me she’s mine. I knew it already, but in order for her to be comfortable with it, she needed to make that decision.
Heat was building as we both refused to look away. She seemed to lean closer and stopped eating chips. I was about to lean in when we were interrupted. “Daisy!”
Annoyed, I looked over to see her blonde friend running toward us. Daisy dropped the chips and met her in the middle of the large space we referred to as the club. She didn’t seem to be favoring her ankle, so hopefully it was feeling better. They slammed together and dug their faces into each other’s hair.
Eagle kept walking toward me and rubbed his stomach. “Hey, man. Starving.”
“We ate. I was gonna take her to the store if she’s feeling up to it. Got some appointments tomorrow. I can take her friend, too.”
“The hell you will,” Eagle said with a grin.
