My chest puffed out and I gave her a nod. She was already getting used to the life. Used to being part of this. I headed over to the garage to see if there was anything I needed to do.

“We got this, but thanks for the show,” Jackal shouted from one of the grills.

I walked over and shook his hand. “Hey, fucker. You came early.”

“I like to eat. Plus, I wanted to check in on Cindy.” He never called her Mama Hen because he was just as old as her and he wasn’t part of the chapter. A lot of the older members knew her as Cindy, and she answered to it.

“That’s cool. So, any word?” I asked as I stepped closer. Daisy came walking over with two solo cups and handed us both one. I pulled her close after I took the cup. “Jackal, this is my lady, Daisy.”

He took a big swig. “Thanks for the beer, sweets. You this fucker’s old lady?”

She looked up at me, so I answered, “Just lady for now. But she’s mine.”

He held up his cup, so I tapped it with mine. “You young fuckers always dicking around. Don’t worry, sweets. He’ll patch ya soon enough. I know this kid.”

She patted my chest. “Well, I’ll leave you boys to it. I’ll be in the kitchen.”

“Seriously, kid. Don’t fuck around too long. She’s a keeper.”

“Is that so?” I asked. She was, but I was interested to see how he thought he knew.

“Saw her the other night. Didn’t take shit off the crazies, could drink with the boys, seems to be falling in line with the life, and she’s one fine looking lady.”

“Sure is. And she’s mine.”

“Down boy. We know,” Eagle said as he walked over.

“Looks like you got yourself a nice little pocket warmer, too, Eagle,” Jackal said as he turned a rack of ribs.

He ran his hand over his chest with a wide grin. “She’s real nice. Real nice indeed.”

A few members were wandering around and there were bikes coming up the driveway, so I didn’t prod about intel again. We’d be able to talk later.

After a couple of hours, it was turning to twilight outside and Hawk escorted Penny and Mama Hen outside near the picnic tables. I pulled Daisy closer as we stood to listen.

“Attention everyone!” Hawk yelled over the chatter. “We want to thank all of you for being here to celebrate Raven’s life. Our pops. Her old man,” he said as he wrapped his arm around Mama Hen and the other around Penny. “He didn’t form this chapter, but he built it to what it is today, and I will do everything in my power to continue his legacy.

“He’d want this. A party. Lots of food, lots of booze, and lots of fucking around!” Everyone cheered and clapped. I didn’t move my arm from around Daisy, but I yelled and Daisy clapped her hands as Hawk shouted over us, “So, grab a rib, grab a cup, and grab a bunny!”

Several men grabbed ladies standing near them and the bunnies squealed. They loved this part. I leaned down to tell Daisy, “Nobody has to force anything here.” I started to straighten back up but then leaned down once more. “But if anyone looks at you sideways, I’ll break their fucking eye socket.”

She looked up with a wry grin. “And do I get to break shit if someone looks at you sideways?”

“If that makes you happy, but I don’t think any of the bunnies would fuck with you.”

“Well. I know of one,” she deadpanned.

I pulled her closer so I could look into her big blue eyes. “She’s a nuisance, not a threat, darlin’.” Her brows raised and I knew that wasn’t the right thing to say. “She won’t fuck with you.”

“But she may fuck with you.”

“Well, if she does, beat her ass. Whatever makes you happy.”

“I know something that would make me really happy.”

Her hands roamed my chest, then down my abs. I was about to scoop her up and go to my room, but Hawk got my attention. “Fuck. Hold that thought.”

She sighed but nodded. “I’ll go find Lacy. Don’t make me wait too long.”
