“So do you, Pike,” Mask tells me.
“I’m headin’ that way, Prez.”
“Good. Get some rest, and we’ll talk in the mornin’.” I nod as I watch the guys leave the room. Then I lay down and pull Feather’s body into mine, spooning around her. And that’s how I fall asleep.
Chapter 22
Feather
He’s broken, and I know he is. I can see it in his eyes. The way he looks at me as if he wants to devour me. At other times, it’s like he can’t stand the sight of me. It hurts. It really does.
I took a leave of absence from work so I could spend time with Pike. It’s been hard watching him try to process and grieve. It’s been hard to see him in a place of darkness when I know he’s not always like this. It hurts me to see him this way.
“What are you thinkin’ about?” I turn my head and see Free sitting next to me.
“What else can I do for him? He’s distant.”
“He’s hurtin’. We all are but what he had to witness is far worse than we could have imagined,” he tells me.
“I know he is. And I want to help him.”
“You are, Feather. You’re here. That’s enough for him right now.”
“Is it?” I don’t feel like it is anymore. I don’t feel like me being here is helping him at all.
“Yeah, it is. You don’t see it, but it is.” He lays a hand on my shoulder just as Pike turns to look at us. I can feel the fire in his gaze from across the room, and I shiver. Pike shoves off the stool he’s been sitting on and stalks toward us, grabbing my wrist and dragging me from the chair. In seconds, he has his arms around me, crushing me to him.
“What’s this about?” I ask.
“This is me needin’ you.”
“You have me.”
“Didn’t look that way,” he snarls. He’s angry, and there’s no reason to be.
“Don’t do that, Pike. I only want you.”
“Is that right? Show me.”
“How?”
“I don’t need to tell you how, Jailbait. Just do it.” It’s more of a demand than anything, and I step back out of his arms, unsure what to do. Pike crosses his arms over his chest and glares at me. I don’t know what he wants from me, but I will do what I can.
“What Pike?”
“Suck my cock.”
“In front of everyone?” I won’t do it. I won’t let him push me that far. He knows I’m here for him and only him. I shake my head as he watches me.
“Is that a no?”
“You go to the room, and I’ll do whatever you want.”
“No. I said here. Everyone is gonna know you’re mine, Feather.”
“They already do.”
“I don’t think so. Get on your knees,” he demands. This isn’t him. This isn’t the Pike I fell for, and I refuse to let him push me to do this. I shake my head once more as he smirks at me.
