He chuckled, thrusting against me. “You’re so fucking wet, omega, so warm and soft and good.”
“So, you’re happy too?”
“Very happy.”
“I told you that you’d like it.”
“Oh, you were right.” He kissed me. “This is better than teasing you. This is bliss.”
I wrapped my thighs tight around him. “Fuck me now, Nikolai. Fuck me nice and hard. Make me come on your knot.”
“Yes, omega,” he whispered. “It would be my pleasure.”

“WHERE’S THE MONEY?” said the thug who’d met us at the rendezvous. We were in a public place, outside an outdoor shopping center with wooden-slatted walkways and fancy light fixtures decorated with dangling flowers. It was supposed to mean that there wouldn’t be any violence, but I knew better.
I could feel my gun against my rib cage, and I knew that if I needed it, I would use it, location be damned.
“Where’s Corentin Sejour?” I said.
“Not how this works, as I told you on the phone,” said the thug. “You give us the money, and we text you his location.”
“Well, here’s the thing,” I said, “we didn’t bring any money.”
The thug glared at me. “Wasting our time, I see.” He turned on his heel and started to walk off.
I caught up with him. “Not so fast.”
He whirled, fists flailing. I caught a punch on the chin, and then I pulled out my gun. I pressed it into his chest, both of us so close we could have been kissing.
“Now,” I said. “Where is Corentin Sejour?”
“I don’t fucking know,” he said. “My job is to get the cash.”
“Well, you didn’t get that,” I said. “But you’re going to take us to where you would have taken the cash, and we’re going to get to the bottom of this.”
“If I take you to them, they’ll kill me,” he said. “You must think I’m an idiot.”
“I could kill you now,” I said with a shrug.
“Fuck you,” he said, baring his teeth.
“Take us,” I said.
He shook his head. “Fine,” he said. “Fine, get that gun off me.”
I lowered it, but I didn’t put it away. “Take us there,” I said.
His nostrils flared.

NIKOLAI MADE THE guy from the rendezvous drive us out of town and to this fancy, expensive hotel. We took the elevator all the way to the penthouse suite. When the door opened and the guy there saw us, he wasn’t pleased.
Nikolai brandished his gun and stepped off the elevator, and I followed him, staying behind him. “We’re just here for Corentin Sejour,” he said.
