CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Fingers slowly trailed up and down her spine. Emmarie smile before stretching.

“Ah, that feels nice,” she murmured.

“I’m going to have to go in a little bit,” he told her, regret heavy in his voice. “I have a meeting today.”

“With whom?”

His fingers stalled their massage, and she felt his body tense for a second before he relaxed and went back to their ministration.

“Nobody special. I’m going on a supply run soon so I just need to talk over specs with the mechanic.”

“Oh,” she said. “You didn’t tell me you were going soon.”

He leaned down and kissed her shoulder. “I’ve deferred for over a week now but it’s time I resume my job. Sparta runs on everyone pulling their weight.”

She was quiet for a moment. “Then what do I bring?”

He rolled onto his back and then pulled and manipulated her body until she sat astride him. “You brought recognition from the Durian’s.”

“I sang a song,” she reminded him, pushing her hair behind his ears as she looked down at him from her vantage point.

“You sang a song with a powerful message. No one else has ever gotten up on stage and basically handed the people of Sparta a plate of in-your-face reality. Everyone who came from being a slave wants to run and hide and those born on this side of the Rings don’t understand.”

“You understand.”

“Because my parents fought their whole lives,” he said quietly. “They died fighting. How can I be any different?”

She didn’t answer because she didn’t have any words of comfort to give. She knew what it was like to suddenly be an orphan. But what words could she use to comfort a man whose parents died trying to save the human population?

She sat astride him, completely naked, her hair flowing loose around her face and shoulders. He pulled her down toward his mouth, kissing her deeply as he filled her. Back and forth, very tenderly and slowly. Needing to move, she rocked her hips. Raiden moaned. All discomfort melted away as pleasure consumed her.

“Pell,” she begged, though she didn’t know what exactly she was begging for. An end? More? To never stop? There was a tremendous heat building that caused her legs to lock up as a wave crashed through her.

“Emmarie,” he gasped just as his body surged against hers, shuddering with each spill inside her. After a moment, he relaxed back down and pulled her sweaty body with him. Their hearts thundered in unison.

“Be careful on your mission,” she whispered.

“I will. Now that I have someone to come back to.”

She laid a gentle kiss on his chest. “Yes, you do.”
