“Oh…”
“What?”
“Those were manufactured issues, Stellan. I wonder if he knew that she was into you.”
“What do you mean?”
“Think about it. I know I have been all night. She wanted to be with you, and as soon as they broke up, she became your stalker. Those feelings didn’t come out of nowhere. Including you on date nights had to be a dead giveaway to him that you were more than a boss, even if you didn’t see it that way. The fact that you didn’t date probably added to the belief that you had something going on. They probably broke up because of you, and she turned her feelings to you.”
“That’s just a bit too much.”
“I’d ask him. When Chet and I were together, he’d find a reason to include Carrie in lunch with us. He was texting her that night at dinner when I saw you.”
“So, you believe that I was the reason for their breakup?”
“And now that their relationship had ended, the obsession was able to fully take over.”
“I’ll have to contact him and speak with the police on that because it will work to help prosecute her.”
“She’s mentally unwell.” As much as I despise this woman, she’s clearly insane.
“I don’t care. Felicity could have killed you, and that isn’t something I could live with. You have no idea what you mean to me, Georgia.” He leans in and pulls me in for a kiss, sending my monitors off.
“Oops.”
“I need to get out of here. I’m fine.”
“Hey, no messing around. This is a hospital,” Grandma Barrymore shouts through the door.
Stellan rolls his eyes and grumbles, “Lord, she’s going to be trouble.”
“She loves you,” I say.
“I think she loves you more,” he confesses. “I might be jealous, but I want her to love my wife almost as much as I do.”
“Did you just say…”
“That I love you? Yes, Georgia Marie King. I love you with every last bit of me, and you don’t have to love me just yet, and that’s okay because I know it’s fast.”
“Calm down.” I press my hand to his rapidly beating chest. “I love you too, Stellan Knox or Stellan Barrymore. Whatever it is, you go by.” He kisses me again, sending the sensors wild and lifting me off the bed.
“Mr. Knox, if you’re going to kidnap her, could you at least let us unplug the monitors,” the nurse teases.
Chapter Ten
Stellan
By seven in the morning, I’m in the temporary sheriff’s office meeting with the police department and the state police. “Mr. Knox, thank you for coming in this morning.”
“What can I do for you?”
“We just want to go over everything again.”
I spent the next three hours going over every detail of the past two weeks with them before finally calling it quits. I need to get back to Georgia. Besides, it’s technically a federal crime, and the FBI wants jurisdiction, so all of this will fall to them. Felicity followed me from California to North Carolina. I didn’t want the drama, but I needed her locked away so she couldn’t harm Georgia again.
“Excuse me, gentleman, but I have a beautiful woman that needs my attention at home.”
“If we need to speak to you again—”
