Chapter Twenty-Four

Talitha

I stay seated by the window. It’s late into the night, but I can’t sleep, my mind constantly wondering if the doctor got the message to the Satan’s. It’s silent, the entire community asleep, and the only thing I can see is the lanterns around the camp and the security guards with their torches.

Something catches my eye though. One of the security guard’s lights waves around like he's fallen over. I frown and stare as hard as I can into the darkness. The light comes back on and he now seems to be moving quickly. I spot all around the perimeter as the security guards torches drop off one by one.

“What on earth?” I mutter to myself. Hearing muffled sound and a commotion from outside my room, I turn as the lock on my door clicks. I panic and reach for the knife left from my dinner plate, holding it out in front of me, bracing myself for whoever is coming in.

The door opens and a man wearing a mask enters.

“Get out. Leave me alone or I swear I will scream,” I threaten.

He removes his mask. “You might want to keep your mouth shut, darlin’, as we’re breaking you out of this prison.” Rip winks. I nearly scream with glee as I run towards him. I wrap my arms around his neck and hold on so tight that I'm scared if I let go then he won’t be real. “Alright, easy, darlin’, I need to breathe. Now, come on, let’s get you the hell out of here,” he whispers, taking my hand and leading me out of there, jumping over a guard who is led on the floor.

We move quickly and quietly through the halls. Once outside, I take a deep breath, feeling the cool night air hit my skin.

I can see the guys up ahead, waiting for us at the exit.

“Stop!” a small voice shouts. We stop and see a little boy, probably no older that ten.

“Kid, we ain’t got time for this shit,” Rip growls at the boy, scaring him. I let go of Rip’s hand and move to the boy, cupping his face.

“Please keep quiet, I beg of you. They are rescuing me, we will come back one day and rescue you and your family, I promise. You just need to keep quiet,” I beg. He pauses for a second before he nods.

“They took my sister,” he whispers. Immediately, my heart breaks. I place a soft kiss on his head.

“I promise it will be over soon,” I whisper over my shoulder.

I jump into a four-by-four and another three more follow us. Mammoth––who is driving––turns around to me and smiles. “Good to have you back with us.”

I smile but my smile wobbles, then the dam I had built since being imprisoned in there breaks and I sob uncontrollably.

Rip pulls me to him, holding me tight. “It’s okay, darlin’, you're out of there now. You're safe. You can see Khan soon,” he soothes and my head snaps up.

“He's alive?” I ask.

Rip smiles and nods. “Yeah, darlin’, he's alive. Did you think he was dead?” he asks me, and I nod.

“Brother Asher said he was dead.” I sob. “He told me he was dead,” I repeat as relief sweeps through me.

We drive for a while until we arrive at the club. Rip helps me out and leads me inside, and once inside, a surprised Rose greets me. “Oh my God! Talitha!” She pulls me in for a hug and I sob some more as she leads me into her little treatment room, leaving the guys to it.

“What happened to you, tell me. Anything you need help with?” she asks.

I wipe my eyes. “Help me out of these clothes, please, I want nothing of that cult near me. Please,” I beg.

She nods and pulls out a bag of clothes, pulling out a plain deep-green summer dress. I go to lift the dress above my head but hiss as my wounds pull.

Rose helps lift it over my head and she gasps. “Oh, Talitha, what did they do to you?”

“They gave me lashings then made me sit in a salt bath.” I sob. “Brother Asher, he… He violated my body. Every part of my body hurts. I thought Khan was dead, he told me he was dead. I watched him shoot Khan, I watched him fall to the floor and I thought I had lost him.” I crumble to the floor, letting all my emotions out. Rose grabs a blanket and wraps it around me and just holds me, stroking my hair, trying to soothe me, and I cry until I have nothing left in me.

“Shh, she's sleeping, let her rest,” I hear Rose whisper.

“They're going to burn in fucking hell for what they’ve done to Khan and to her,” I hear a deep voice say.
