Razr was here.
“I need you to listen to me real close, Trish.”
“Okay,” I whispered, like it mattered.
“You’re gonna move toward the door. I’ll be right behind you. If he makes a move toward us, I’m pulling my gun.”
“Rael, you can’t do that in the store.”
“The hell I can’t.”
Oh my God! We were going to end up on the evening news. Shot dead at a local pharmacy. Or portrayed as murdering druggies on a wild rampage. I could see the headlines.
“Trish, get out of your head. Stay alert. Get to the SUV.”
Right. Focus.
I nodded as we moved toward the exit. Razr watched us with the same calculating grin until we passed him, then began to follow us.
Rael shoved the keys into my hand. “Run.”
Shit!
I bolted for the SUV, yanking on the handle of the driver’s side door and climbing inside. I slammed it shut, breathing hard as I turned my head to see where Rael went.
He stood in front of my window. “Razr.”
“Give Grim a message.”
“I’m not your errand boy, you fucking dick.”
Razr took a step toward us, and Rael cracked his neck. “Give me a fucking reason. They won’t find your body.”
Razr ticked his chin toward the SUV. “Tell him I can get to her whenever I want. If I wanted his little bitch dead, I would have done it already.”
“She’s the ol’ lady of my pres, motherfucker. Show some respect.”
Razr shrugged. “That means nothing to me.”
“How the fuck are you still alive?”
“You still haven’t figured it out?” A sinister laugh followed. “I had a twin. Anidenticaltwin.”
Rael slammed a fist into the door panel. “Fuck.”
“Yeah, now I got another reason to have your fucking president. Tell him I’m done with this shit. I’ll be seeing him real soon.” Razr’s gaze focused on me. “You change your mind and want a real man; I’m willing to put you to work on your knees, Trish.”
I jolted from his crude innuendo.
Rael growled, pushing off the SUV to charge at Razr. I figured he might use his Reaper ability, but he didn’t. Razr backed up a few paces until a silver van pulled up. He hopped inside, flipping the middle finger as the driver raced out of the lot.
“Always a fucking coward,” Rael complained. He frowned as he turned to me. “You wanna drive or me?”
I pointed at him. I was so shaky I couldn’t hold the wheel.
“Move over.”
I hit the unlock button and moved seats, climbing onto the passenger side as I pushed the bags onto the floor. My nerves were shot. Anxious energy flowed through me. I chewed on a nail, staring out the window as Rael began bitching.
