It’s always the same ‘ol song and dance with Isla. Every Friday, she struts into his office, looking like a complete bombshell. She’s always wearing her tightest clothing, and her hair and makeup are always perfect. I habitually give her fifteen minutes before interrupting and kicking her out of his office.
Standing up, I make my way to the break room to grab a new cup of coffee to kill time. Even though I know Alexander is gay and not into women, it still grates on my nerves every time she’s in his office flirting her ass off.
With a fresh cup of coffee in hand, I make my way back to my desk, the chair squeaking loudly when I plop onto it. Looking at the time on my computer, I see that she’s been in there for nine minutes.
“Fuck this,” I whisper to myself as I set down my coffee and grab my iPad, making my way to the door. Pushing it open, I parade in saying, “Sorry Ms. Evers, your time is up,” to which both Isla and Alexander look at their watches.
“Uh, yes, of course.” Isla picks up her folder, offering Alexander a smile before turning and giving me a look as though she wishes I would catch on fire. Oh shit, she’s pissed I cut her time short. Smiling brightly, I hold her gaze until she huffs and leaves the office, the door slamming shut behind her.
“Wow, I think that’s a new record,” Alexander jokes and I roll my eyes.
“You have a busy day, is all.”
“Lay it on me then.”
Pulling up his calendar, I run through all the appointments he has for the rest of the day.
“Fuck, that’s a lot.” He scrubs his hands down his face and grimaces.
“Well, it’s Friday. Most of your Fridays end up packed.” I shrug.
“If only I had an assistant who scheduled my days and appointments, one who could hmm, I don’t know, make sure I don’t have such a packed Friday.”
“One could dream, right.”
Huffing out a laugh, he shakes his head, smiling at me.
“Well, I guess I’ll get back to work.”
He nods his head while turning back to his computer, so I leave his office to return to my desk and slump down onto my chair. Guess I’ll get back to work then.
The alarm on my phone goes off, alerting me it’s five minutes to five. Pushing away from my desk, I grab my stuff and walk into Alexander’s office to debrief him for the day and let him know of his upcoming appointments for next week.
The sound of his keyboard clicking hits my ears when I walk in, and I make my way to the chair in front of his desk, his eyes never leaving the computer.
Growing irritated, I huff, his eyes quickly darting to me and then back to his computer. Apparently, he’s changed his mind, if his attitude is anything to go by. I mean, I wasn’t expecting him to drop to his knees each time I came into his office, but I was expecting him to at least bring it up once this week.
“Well, I’m about to go home. Is there anything you need before I head out?”
“Just you.”
“What?” I ask, taken aback by his answer. I’ve been waiting for him to say it, and now he just tosses it out there like it’s nothing.
“You heard me.”
Scoffing, I toss my stuff onto his desk and lean back in the chair, crossing my arms over my chest.
“Oh, now you want me.”
“What the hell are you talking about, Elias?” He quickly grows irritated, and my own irritation kicks up a notch. My cheeks heat in embarrassment that I put myself out there and nothing has come of it.
“This whole week has gone by, and you haven’t brought up anything happening between us.”
“Neither have you,” he replies, and well, shit. He’s got me there.
“Yeah, well. I thought you would mention it.”
“Maybe I was waiting for you to do it,” he counters back.
