“Go home, Marcus. Cool off, and we’ll talk in a few days.” It’s obvious he wants to argue with me, but eventually, he storms off, slamming doors as he leaves before peeling out into the street.

Turning around, I meet my new wife's eyes, and her concern for me over what just happened with my brother nearly brings me to my knees. I recognize that she’s mad about my omitted lies, yet still, she cares enough to worry.

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell anyone I knew who Piper was or reveal who I was to her, but I won’t apologize for going after what I want and ensuring I don’t lose her.”

Fuck. This.

Reaching forward, I grip Piper around the back of her neck, and honestly, she’s the only one I’m concerned about getting their forgiveness. Kissing her forehead, I whisper to her, “I love you, doll. Nothing will change that, and if you need to be mad at me for a little while, then that’s all right. I can work my ass off to gain your trust again, but what I won’t allow you to do is shut me out. We clear?”

Staring into her eyes, shadows lurk there, but I also see her wavering. “Yeah, Galen, I think we can work this out. I want us to work this out, but tomorrow, you have to tell me everything. Every last detail, or I’ll leave.”

“Tomorrow?” I breathe against her lips, hoping she’s about to say what I want her to.

“Tomorrow. Tonight, you made me a few awfully big promises, and I’m hoping you intend to keep them.” Her smile shines radiantly as she flicks her eyes to the side, silently asking me to make peace with my parents.

CHAPTER 9

Piper

My heart beats a thousand miles per minute as I watch Galen speak quietly to his parents. Hael sits silently in astonishment as she absorbs everything that’s occurred.

To say I’m shocked is an understatement. Galen spoke so lovingly about his parents, swearing that they would love me and I would love them, and now, it makes sense. If there was one good thing to come from my relationship with Marcus, it’s that I got to know and love Amy and David. From the first time I met them, they treated me like their long-lost daughter.

If I’m perfectly honest with myself, they’re the reason I put up with Marcus for so long. I didn’t want to lose them. Now, I truly have them and a man I believe loves me beyond comprehension. I just need to work through the emotions that cause me to wonder what else is to come. I feel that if he kept this from me, there might be more as well.

“So, you’re sticking with this, then?” Hael’s fingers play with mine in my lap.

“I am, Hael. He has a lot to explain, but I don’t think he hid this on purpose, or at least not with the intent to hurt me.” I keep holding onto that belief. I have to, or I’ll fall apart.

“If he hurts you, I’m cutting his balls off.” I laugh at her threat, but she’s completely serious.

Hauling Hael up in a tight hug, I tell her, “Thank you for being the best friend a girl could ever ask for. I’m so lucky to know you.”

“You know I’m not going anywhere, right? I mean, we still have classes together, and once that man has sated his lust for you, I fully intend on taking you out for the best kind of girls' night.” I nod, loving the sound of that. “Good, I’m going to head out. I expect full details when he lets you up for air again.”

“Love you.” I kiss her cheek, and she does the same.

“Piper, we’ll see you on Sunday for dinner.” Amy smiles at me, looking less stressed than when our eyes met for the first time this evening.

“I’ll see you then. Bye.” Waving, I watch them leave, waiting for my husband to creep up on me like I know he’s dying to.

It doesn’t take long. His confident stride eats up the space between us, and the next thing I know, I’m swung up into his arms.

“I can walk.” Galen spears me with a look that makes me giggle.

“Not tonight.” His growl is inhuman, and I get a thrill from it.

He takes the stairs two at a time to his room—ours now, I suppose—like I’m light as a feather. It’s incredible to feel dainty to a man his size. As we enter the bedroom, I gasp at the mood lighting from the tiny tea-light candles. “Daddy,” I sigh and rest my head on his shoulder.

“Anything for my girl.” He kisses my head as he approaches the bed, allowing me to slide to my feet.

“I like the way that sounds,” I coo as Galen drops to his knees before me. The top of his head sets at breast level, and I’m unsuccessful at stifling the titter that escapes my lips. Our size differences are vast, and I love that about us.

“How about my wife, instead?” I sigh and nod as his fingers move to the back of my dress, slipping the zipper down to watch the garment fall at my feet.

“I definitely like that more, husband.” That growl erupts again, and my thighs rub together as my core throbs with need for this man.

“Had to be naked,” he mutters, rubbing his face between my breasts before licking up the center and over to a nipple. I cry out at the sensation, trembling as he sucks in sharp tugs.
