“Don’t be stupid, Ruby. You can do it here. Why would we…”

“Jake. It’s like, fifteen minutes from here. Twenty, tops.”

“Not the point! She’s bleeding all over the place.”

I look down, and he’s right. Blood is blossoming through the towel. My knees feel weak again, and I wobble. Jake snakes his arm around my shoulders to steady me. “I’m okay,” I maintain unconvincingly.

“Ruby!”

She sigh-growls. “Fine. Get her downstairs.”
