Jessica shrugged. ‘Honestly, I don’t give a shit. I’m just looking forward to getting outta dodge tomorrow and stuffing my pie hole.’
There was a knock at the door.
Jessica went to open it. ‘Oh, hey, Hanuman. How’s it going?’
‘Great, thanks.’ He looked past Jessica to Sophia. ‘I’ve got your new uniform.’
‘Thank you.’ She went to get up.
‘No, don’t move. I also wanted you to know I’m arranging two chairs at the back of the temple so you can put your leg up during Satsang.’
Jessica took the bundle of clothes from him. ‘I’ll make sure she gets there in one piece.’
Isaac gave her a relieved smile. ‘I really appreciate it.’ He glanced at Sophia again, as if he wanted to say more.
Jessica smirked. ‘Okay, thank you. See you later!’
He nodded, then left.
Jessica closed the door and made a show of fanning herself. ‘Is it me, or did this island just get a whole lot hotter?’
Sophia rolled her eyes.
‘Tomorrow’s a day off and I’m planning on breaking as many ashram rules as I possibly can. How about you, chickadee?’
Sophia didn’t reply. In her mind, she and Isaac were already breaking the biggest one of all.

‘Hello, this is the Rectory. Eveline Newton speaking.’
‘Hey, it’s me.’
‘Oh, my goodness! Isaac!’
‘I tried your mobile, but it rang out.’
‘I think I left it in the kitchen. What an absolute pleasure to hear your voice! How are you? And how’s India?’
‘I’m not there anymore.’
‘Are you back?’
‘No. My guru wanted to visit another ashram, so we came to the one in the British Virgin Islands.’
‘How lovely! The weather must be a step up from the Himalayas. But what on earth is the time there now?’
Isaac looked out into the darkness, the moonlight glittering on the surface of the sea.
‘Five a.m.’
‘Good grief. I want to yawn thinking about it. Although in a few weeks I expect I’ll be awake then.’
‘How’s pregnancy going? How are you feeling?’
‘Every day is a little different, but it’s manageable at the moment and I’m not as tired as I was at the beginning. Oh, and my belly button popped out the other day!’
Fear flashed through him. ‘What?’
