This turned me on even more, and I grabbed ahold of her hips and plowed into her from below. She bent down to kiss me as she finished, and I came inside of her. I was still breathing quite heavily when she brought her mouth to my ear and whispered two words that I never realized could be so goddamn sexy.

“I’m pregnant.”

At first, I was stunned into silence. Still inside of her, still spilling my seed in fact, I didn’t know what to do or say in response to something so glorious. She smiled, and I felt her cheeks dimple against my own.

“Say it again,” I requested, and so she did.

“I’m pregnant,” she said. “With your child.” She sat up so that we could look into each other’s eyes, and mine almost immediately began to water.

“When—?”

“This morning,” she said. “I’d had a hunch for about a week now, but I asked Georgie to bring me a pregnancy test when she came to do the book run today. I know you should’ve been the first person I told, but she obviously wasn’t going to let me get away without telling her the result. I hope you’re not mad.”

“Mad?” I scoffed. “How could I be mad? I’m—I’m the opposite of mad. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been!”

“Really?”

I pulled her back into me, keeping a tight grip on everything I loved most in the world. The woman of my dreams and the little wolf cub growing in her belly. “Yes, really. This is the best day of my life, Diana. And I owe it all to you.”

She laughed and rested her head on my chest. Her skin was warm to the touch, and I felt a droplet or two on my skin as she began to cry. “Well, I think you played a role in the making of this baby too.” She sniffled and then settled heavily on top of me. I ran my hand lovingly down the back of her head a few times, tickling her neck ever so gently and dancing my fingertips between her shoulder blades until she eventually fell asleep.

I didn’t last too long myself, falling into unconsciousness soon after her. One of the last thoughts I had before drifting off to sleep was about this new chapter in my life and how it felt almost like a dream. Just to be safe, I reached my hand down by my leg and pinched the skin right above my knee. Then I opened my eyes to confirm that Diana was still there and sighed with relief when I realized she hadn’t disappeared.

So this is all happening… I thought.

I’d have to tell her soon that I’d had one of our witch doctors visit her in the night shortly after she’d moved in. At the time, he informed me she was not pregnant, but he confirmed that she was strong enough to bear a werewolf’s child. He assured me there was nothing to worry about and to keep doing what I was doing. So, I kept doing what I was doing.

Witch doctors intrigued me. So did fortune tellers. But it wasn’t until tonight that I truly found myself believing in magic.
