A large shape moved through the water. She could see the glint of metal on his arms as he swam towards the shallow part of the pool.
Gripping her wrists once more, she ordered Emi and Tope to leave the cave and hide.
“No!” Tope growled back in her mind.
“Please, Tope. Get Emi somewhere safe. Take Kisma and Maku with you. I’m safe in the wall, they won't be able to get to me here. Please, I can't let anything happen to you.”
“No, Amy. We will not leave you.”
Amy bit back the fear of losing them. She couldn’t let anything happen to them. These cyborg aliens were huge and deadly, and she knew that if left to fight, one or both beasts she loved would be killed by the large alien.
“Go, Tope. I command it as your Alpha.”
Amy had never used the Alpha card on them. She didn’t want to, but she had to make sure they were safe.
From what she had seen in the complex where the cyborgs lived, she knew they had females there, so maybe they wouldn’t hurt her. But there was no doubt in her mind that they would kill Emi and Tope if they saw them. No one understood them like she did. Anyone who saw them, only saw the monsters their kind could be. Much like she had when she first woke up in the cave… The way the convoy guards had when they were attacked.
“Go! Now!” Amy said in a harsh whisper, focusing on Kisma and Maku to make sure they left with Emi and Tope.
Once she was sure they would leave and stay safe, Amy peered out of the gap in the wall again.
The huge alien that had fallen in was gone. Had he climbed out the hole? Was he in the other part of her cave?
She stayed quiet, listening to any sound in the space around her.
The water still sloshed from the waves the cyborg had made when he fell in, but no other sound reached her. Not even the soft singing of the birds she always heard from the trees above.
With a steadying breath, Amy eased out of the gap in the wall, making sure to look around her as she did. She didn’t see any movement or large shapes as she stepped out. Keeping her back pressed close to the gap in the wall in case she needed to make a quick retreat, Amy waited and listened.
The water calmed, only lapping gently at the rocks around it. The forest was still silent, and the soft pop and crackle of the fire echoed in the open space.
With one last look around, Amy stepped away from the wall and took slow, careful steps forward.
She had only gone three steps when a large, solid arm wrapped around her waist, lifting her up against a warm, wet body.
Panic engulfed her as she realized that the huge alien must have been waiting on top of the rocks above the gap.
“No!” Amy screamed, trying to kick and punch at the arm that held her.
When another large body fell from the hole in the ceiling, Amy stilled and watched as another huge cyborg rose from the water. He moved to the shallow part of the pool and climbed out. When he turned to face her, Amy sucked in a breath with a silent gasp.
Black clothes stuck to a large solid body that rippled with muscles. Thick, raven black hair cut short glistened from the water in the morning sun. One hand showed the metal of his arm underneath the long sleeve of his shirt, while the other showed smooth, tanned skin.
She raised her gaze to meet the striking brown eyes that stared at her with an unblinking intensity that shook her.
Unable to speak, Amy watched as the powerful cyborg moved around the pool, leaving huge wet footprints as he walked.
As he got closer, her heart stuttered in her chest. She might be scared out of her mind, but her body recognized just how incredible he was. He looked a lot like a human, with two stunning eyes, full, kissable lips that she wanted to nibble on and a perfect, straight nose.
Blushing at her own thoughts, she tried to tear her eyes away from his burning gaze but found that not only did she not want to, but she liked how he looked at her. There was something deep, almost primal in the way he stared at her. It should have scared her, but it didn’t. If anything, it pulled at her heart. He was in pain. Not physical pain, but a deep emotional pain that almost brought tears to her eyes.
Lost in the alien’s eyes, Amy didn’t realize the other male had put her down until he let her go and her knees buckled. Again, a solid, warm arm shot out to steady her, only this time it was gentle.
Drawing on all her strength, Amy tore her eyes off the alien in front of her to glance up at the one holding her.
Again, shock made her gasp when she saw the exact same face looking back at her from the other alien. They were twins. Identical if she wasn’t mistaken.
He too stared at her with a mixture of shock, awe, and fear in his eyes.
