He let her get to her feet, but she held on to his cock like he was going to go away. They lay down on their sides, facing each other, head to toe.

“Bring that sweet pussy to me,” he said, moving down to her legs so he had complete access to her.

Lucy slipped him back into her mouth as he got comfortable, and when he got down to business, she nearly shrieked at the unexpected pleasure, and gave as good as she got. He was taking his time, and by the sounds he was making, he was enjoying himself. Lucy was moaning around his cock, taking him deep while she stroked his balls.

Evan licked her up and down, spreading her folds until he found her clit. His lips and tongue stroked her, and when he sucked on the tiny bud, she squealed and came on his face. She redoubled her efforts, and the only sounds in her room were the wet sucking noises she was making and Evan’s groans of pleasure.

“Coming,” he warned her, and she took him deep and swallowed as he shouted and shook apart. “Fuck, you’re amazing.” He kissed her thighs before flipping over on his back.

“I’m pretty amazed by you too.” Lucy turned her body so that they were facing each other, and slid up his body to rest on his chest. They held each other tight as if they were afraid the other would fade away.

“So what were we talking about before you made me come my brains out?” she asked in contentment.

“You were asking me if the SOBs were vigilantes. The Sentinels of Babylon have a code of honor that we live by. We’re the good guys. I need you to believe that.”

“I do.” Lucy stroked his chest. “But not everyone else does.”

“I don’t care about anyone else,” he said. “I care about my friends and about you.”

“In that order?” she couldn’t help but ask.

He kissed the top of her head. “I’m with you right now, aren’t I?”

Lucy was pretty sure that was because of the sex, but she didn’t want to hear him confirm that.

“Do you guys kill people, Evan?” she asked, looking into his beautiful green eyes. She didn’t see a killer there.

“I try not to, but sometimes you can’t cure stupid.”

“Evan,” she groaned, exasperated. “I’m serious.”

He hugged her closer. “I’ve had to pull the trigger in the line of duty when I was a cop because they were shooting at me. In that case it was kill or be killed. Sentinel fought in wars. Warden defended himself during a prison riot. And I don’t ask Ryder what she did overseas for the CIA, mostly because I don’t think she’s kidding when she says, ‘I could tell you, but I’d have to kill you.’ ” Evan tilted her head back and kissed her.

She closed her eyes and let herself enjoy the sweet slide of his mouth over hers. Lucy was practically purring when he tucked her head into his shoulder. “The SOBs are damaged goods, honey. You’ve seen the violence. It’s who we are. I don’t want that side of my life to touch you, though. You exist apart from the ugliness in my life.”

That didn’t sound like they were together just because of the sex. That thought gave her a bit of hope.

“I can’t figure out why Travis thinks the SOBs are vigilantes.”

“I’d like to know why too.” He kissed her again. “If you find out, let me know.”

But Lucy wasn’t ready to give up on the subject, no matter how distracting his kisses were. “Does he think that you weren’t justified when you defended yourself when you were a cop?”

“His office cleared me of any wrongdoing. I don’t know why he’s out for me. Except maybe he’s jealous that I have you and he doesn’t. I don’t like that he’s your white knight. It makes me want to beat his head in.”

His casual talk of violence no longer alarmed her. It was endearing—as long as he didn’t act on it. “Don’t hurt Travis,” she said. “He’s married to his job.”

“And you’re married to me.” Evan rolled over on his back and took her with him.

Her heart did a flip and she grew warm all over. “Did I miss the ceremony?” she asked from on top of him.

“Don’t need one. You’re my woman.” Evan shifted her so he could slip inside her. “I don’t want anyone else.”

Lucy’s eyes closed in bliss when he filled her. “Oh,” she said softly.

“But if you want a ceremony, I suppose we can arrange it.” They were face-to-face. Lucy had to prop herself up to look into his eyes. He held her backside so she couldn’t move, and they lay there like that, joined together.

This time her heart did stutter. “Did you just ask me to marry you?”
