Rha slid his warm palms up my bare shoulders.

“There is no need to feel ashamed of your pleasure, sweetheart. No one will ever judge you for sharing your joy with me. They can only be envious.”

He trailed soft, gentle kisses down the side of my neck. I tilted my head back, giving him more of my neck to caress. There was not a part of me that didn’t welcome his touch.

My arms fell away from my chest, exposing my breasts to him again. He ran his fingers around the swell of each.

“You like my hands on you, but you love my tongue even more.” He lifted me into his arms, bringing my chest to the same level as his lips, then sucked a nipple into his mouth.

I arched my back with a moan and wrapped my legs around him as he lay me down on the cushioned seat of the swing. He tore my sleeping gown down the middle, exposing more of my skin for his kisses.

Heat coursed through my body. Need pooled low in my belly, aching and begging for a release.

“You need more, don’t you?” He slid a hand up my leg, hiking up my skirt. “Tell me, my sweet, where do you want me? Where did you touch yourself before?”

His hand moved up my thigh, his fingers probing and stroking. He brushed against my underwear, and I whimpered as another spark of desire zapped through my body.

“Oh, God…Rha…”

“Here?” He stroked along my folds through the thin fabric.

I exhaled sharply. My muscles trembled.

“Here.” He smirked confidently, tugging my underwear off.

Kneeling by the swing seat, he let his fingers dance around my opening. With his other hand, he massaged my breast, pinching the nipple and rolling it gently.

“Just like that,” he exhaled, breathless with my pleasure.

Lost to his touch, I could no longer speak at all. He kissed the inside of my thigh. Once again, his fingers found my most sensitive spot. My hips bucked.

“Right there…” He narrowed his touch to that one point of pleasure. “Gods… This is divine.”

Kissing down my belly, he brought his mouth where his fingers had just been and took my clit between his lips.

Air rushed out of my lungs. I gripped his hair, tangling my fingers in his braids. Raising my hips, I pressed into his mouth, riding his tongue.

“Oh, yes…”

My need grew stronger, more desperate. But he matched it perfectly, licking faster and sucking harder until our shared pleasure crested and exploded with a mind-shuddering orgasm.

I panted, gripping his hair. His fingers dug into my thighs. He buried his face between my legs, riding my orgasm with me.

When I finally relaxed into the cushion of the seat, he rested his head on my belly, still kneeling on the sand-covered patio by the swing.

“How is it possible…” he panted, catching his breath, “to hold this much pleasure inside you? How is there any place for sadness at all?”

I relaxed my fingers, releasing his braids, then smoothed his hair gently.

“It’s all about balance, isn’t it? You, of all people, should understand that. One can’t always be happy. If they are, they’ve lost their mind.”

Just like being always unhappy could lead to madness too. Only that was exactly the fate of shadow fae, wasn’t it? They felt sadness, anger, envy, and grief, without any reprieve of pleasure.

Rha had every right to rage against the unfair hand dealt to his kind, yet he behaved as the most even-tempered man I’d ever met. He worked hard on keeping his composure, and I couldn’t help but admire him for that.

I kept running my fingers over his dark, glossy strands, playing with the thin braids laid over his unbound hair. And I thought about this swing, the intricate puzzle he’d been working for who knew how long, and the soothing sound of the stream running through his rooms downstairs. He employed many devices and put a lot of effort into simply finding and maintaining his inner peace.

“I’ve been learning something, Dawn,” he said. “There are emotions that are impossible to rein in. Wild and thrilling, they are the opposite of peace. They are chaos.” He lifted his head, catching my gaze. “There is beauty in chaos. And I don’t want to live without it anymore. I need it more than peace. More than the air I breathe. I need you, my treasure.”
