“Sure,” I mumbled, quickly shoving the images of him being jerked off in a sex pod out of my head. However, the arousing tingling along my skin continued to simmer warmly.
Where did all that come from?
I’d heard some women had heightened libidos during pregnancy. It hadn’t been my case so far. Was this how it started?
On the other hand, I hadn’t had sex for a very long time. Pregnant or not, I missed a man’s touch.
And now, I was thinking about the professor holding me in his arms as I cried last night. He felt so warm and strong. His arms...
With a tug on my hand, the professor snapped me out of my inappropriate thoughts once again. He led me to one of the indoor gazebos with a tearoom underneath. The glass ceiling over it was lifted, allowing the breeze to flutter through.
“Can I have a dessert?” I asked, forcing my mind to focus on things that didn’t involve the professor being naked.
He moved his jaw, twitching his beard.
“Maybe a fruit salad,” he conceded. “With a drizzle of tree nectar.”
Chapter 11
Kear
“Hi Walter,
Thank you so much for your reply. I’m glad you decided to give us time. But that shouldn’t mean we should stop writing to each other. Talk to me. Write to me. I want to know how you’re doing and what you’re thinking about. It’ll help me to better understand where your doubts are coming from. Maybe we could mend some things before I come home. There are still so many months left.
I can’t wait for this to be over. Being here feels confining, and I’m counting the days until I’m free again.”
Maya wasn’t happy. That much was clear even to Kear, who read women’s bodies like an open map but saw their minds as a confusing, impenetrable jungle. She didn’t say she was outright miserable in her letter, but the sadness and loneliness seeped through, clear even as it was subtle.
This wasn’t right. It had never been his intention to make her feel trapped and caged in Voran. All he’d ever wanted was to keep his study subject safe in a controlled environment.
That had to change, but there was more that needed to be done.
Maya was a quiet, gentle person. She didn’t complain, taking it all until the breaking point. But she deserved so much more in life. Like any woman, she deserved love and support, not a man who would abandon her on an alien planet simply because another woman happened to be closer.
Maya deserved so much better than that asshole.
