“Just beat your time.” Kev smirked.
Kenny turned and closed his locker, rolling his eyes. Everything was a competition with Kev. He wasn’t exactly a team player.
“Congrats.”
“Couldn’t have you showing me up in front of the boss man.”
“I didn’t even notice Jonas was there,” said Kenny nonchalantly.
“Then you must have missed his bombshell wife, too. I’d like to bring her in here and show her a thing or two.” Kev nodded toward the showers.
Kenny shook his head. “Dude, show some respect. She’s pregnant.”
“I’ve got a thing for MILFs.”
“I’m heading out,” said Kenny, ignoring him.
Kev smirked as Kenny passed him and pushed open the door. He jogged downstairs and saw his Uber pull up. He rode the ten minutes to the café and headed inside. Most of the tables were full, but it was quiet. He spotted Justin at a booth by the window.
Kenny took a seat across from him. “Hey, man. Have you been here long?”
“Nah, just got here,” said Justin as he picked up his menu.
They both ordered a Reuben and fries, which came out quickly. Kenny took a mouthwatering bite and watched Justin do the same.
“Dude,” said Justin, his eyes looking down at his sandwich.
“Right?” Kenny nodded in approval.
“This is the best sandwich I’ve ever had.”
“I know.”
“How did you find this place?”
“My mom did, actually.”
“How is she doing?”
“She’s good.”
“Even with the whole Nate thing?” Justin eyed him cautiously.
“She refuses to talk about it.” Kenny shrugged.
Justin was the only one who knew about Nate being Kenny’s long-lost brother. When Kenny put the pieces together, he had initially gone to his mother, but she was too bitter to confide in. As much as he loved his mother, she could be so stubborn sometimes, especially when it came to talking about the past.
“Do you think he has any idea?” asked Justin, taking a bite of a fry.
Kenny shrugged.
“Wait, even the fries are delicious?” Justin studied the fry in surprise.
Kenny laughed.
“But really, man. This is a lot to bottle up, especially when he’s in the industry. Hell, he’s your owner’s business partner.”
“I know, I know. I’m trying my best to just focus on the game.”
