“Okay, Mr. Superstitious. Where do you wanna go tonight? The usual spot?”

“No,” said Kenny a little too quickly. He had successfully avoided Murphy’s the past week because of the sure chance he would see Cleo behind the bar.

Nico looked at him funny.

“What if the guys are there?”

“True. If I have to see that smug look on Kev’s face anymore, I might punch it straight off.”

Kenny laughed out loud.

“Why don’t we try that new bar that just opened? It’s the same owner of the one in New York. I was in last week. It’s pretty cool,” said Justin.

“Sounds good.”

They finished their dinners and Kenny was so stuffed he didn’t think he could make it for a night out. He had eaten so much food he thought he might fall asleep right there in the booth. They decided to walk to the bar, to help their food digest.

Fifteen minutes later, they arrived. There was a line wrapped around to the back alley. Nico groaned, but the doorman waved them over.

“That was some grand slam last week,” he said to Kenny, as he lifted the velvet rope to let them pass.

“Thanks, man,” said Kenny, as he patted him on the back.

Inside it was packed. A clear U-shaped bar sat in the center of the room with clear barstools surrounding it. There was a DJ in the corner playing mash-ups of the popular songs on the radio right now. Most of the booths were occupied, but there were a few high-top tables open.

“I’ll get the first round,” said Justin, turning to the bar.

He returned shortly with a round of beers. They all took swigs, and soon Nico was making eye contact with a blonde girl on the dance floor.

“You waste no time, do you?” said Justin with a smirk.

“I’ll see you boys in a little while.” Nico grabbed his beer from the table and they watched him introduce himself to the girl. Soon, they were dancing.

“What about you? Anyone of interest?” asked Justin, as he looked out on the dance floor.

“Nah. I’m not looking for anything tonight.”

“And why’s that?”

“No reason.”

“Whatever happened with that girl from the bar? The baker?”

“Nothing,” Kenny lied.

Justin looked at him like he didn’t believe him, but he dropped it. After a few songs, Nico came back to the table with his arm around his dance partner.

“Guys. This is Maddy. Maddy. The guys,” said Nico, kissing her on the cheek.

She giggled and shook their hands.

“Do you mind if my friends join us? They just got here.”

“The more the merrier,” said Justin.

She looked around for her friends and squealed when she spotted them. One was tall and raven-haired, wearing a white strappy dress, and the other was a more petite blonde in jeans and a crop top. She waved them over excitedly, and they linked arms, whispering to each other when they saw the guys.

“I call dibs on the dark-haired one,” said Justin quietly, nudging Kenny.
