“You don’t have to be,” I whisper.

“Liam, I know you are trying to be sweet, but…”

“Listen to me, sweetheart. You don’t have to be the last of your name. We will have children in the future, won’t we?”

She looks up at me, her eyes still glittery with tears. “You still want that?”

“Of course, my love. Of course, I do.”

“But our children will be Night children.”

I cup her cheek and kiss the corner of her mouth. “Who said that? Is it a rule or something?”

“Well…what? What are you saying right now?”

“Black- Night. We will hyphenate it and everything. What do you think, baby?”

She clings to me and lets out a sob. “You would do that for me?”

I feel my heart breaking for her. “I would do anything for you, Selene. Anything. You have me…”

“I am not alone,” she says in a low voice.

“No, you are not alone,” I say, pulling her into my arms and letting her cry. “You will never be alone ever again.”

“You promise?” she whimpers into my collar.

“I swear, baby.”

Tears stream down her cheeks as she kisses my jaw. “Then, can you take me home, please?”

Chapter 62

Selene

As we sit in the driveway, holding hands, the events of tonight play over and over in my mind.

I lost my brothers, and the toll of the night’s events is evident in every ache and bruise on my body.

Ariana had to use her magic to wake me up for the second time in under twenty-four hours. How close I came to losing everything.

I glance over at Liam, his face streaked with blood and sweat. Despite the exhaustion etched into every line of his face, there’s a fierceness in his eyes that tells me he’s ready to face whatever comes next.

“I love you,” I say softly, the words a vow and a promise. “I would choose this path a thousand times over if it meant being with you.”

He turns to me, his gaze softening as he takes in my words. “I love you too, Selene. Let’s go inside.”

Together, we rise to our feet and make our way into his apartment. The last time I was here, I thought I had lost him forever. Now, I’m here to claim him as mine forever.

As we step inside, a wave of exhaustion washes over me. The adrenaline that fueled me through the night begins to fade, leaving behind a bone-deep weariness. Liam guides me to the couch, and we sit in silence for a moment.

“I can’t believe it’s finally over,” I say, breaking the silence. “We actually did it.”

Liam nods, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. “Yeah, we did,” he says, his voice filled with pride. “And we did it together.”

I lean into him, resting my head against his shoulder. “I’m just glad it’s all over,” I say, closing my eyes and letting out a sigh. “I don’t think I could have done it without you.”

“You didn’t have to,” he says, wrapping an arm around me and pulling me close. “I’ll always be here for you, Selene. No matter what.”
