If I tried turning into a wolf, I would be unconscious in a couple of seconds.
What am I to do?
I am trying to think of a solution, but nothing comes to mind. This is unprecedented, and judging by the look of confusion on everyone’s face, no one knows what to do.
We are fucked!
Chapter 60
Selene
Irelease Liam’s hand, a heavy sigh escaping my lips. Liam’s expression shifts from confusion to concern in a futile attempt to make sense of the chaos surrounding us. It’s almost comical, in a twisted sort of way, but there’s no time for levity right now.
“Just trust me,” I murmur to him, my voice barely more than a whisper.
His eyes widen slightly at my words, a flicker of uncertainty dancing in their depths. We’re teetering on the edge of disaster, and I can’t afford to falter.
Turning my attention to Levi, I square my shoulders. “I’d like to talk,” I announce.
But Blake, ever the skeptic, scoffs at my words disdainfully. “Oh, she’s just playing games with us.”
I meet Blake’s gaze directly. “If I were playing games, wouldn’t I have agreed to be Liam’s mate already? All my life, all I’ve ever wanted was to be on the winning team. That’s why I sided with Jade and Gabriel, but look at them now.”
Blake’s eyes narrow in suspicion. “Don’t listen to her, Levi,” he warns.
But I press on. “You were just bragging about giving everyone a choice,” I remind Levi. “Don’t I get a choice too?”
Levi’s gaze softens, a glimmer of understanding passing between us as he extends his hand in a silent invitation for me to approach. Without hesitation, I step forward, closing the distance between us and accepting his offer of reconciliation.
“I knew you’d make the right decision,” he says gently as he helps me to my feet.
”I know I can at least get Grayson and Layla on our side,” I say confidently, despite the nerves that threaten to betray me.
Blake scoffs at my suggestion. “We don’t need them,” he retorts dismissively.
But Levi cuts him off. “Shut up, Blake.”.
I can feel everyone’s eyes on me. This is it, my one shot to make a difference, to change the course of this deadly game.
I know what I have to do.
Walking past Layla, I steel myself against the rising tide of nerves threatening to overwhelm me. Willow is the linchpin in this twisted game, the real threat. If I can take her out, the rest of the battle might just tip in our favor.
I shoot Levi a reassuring smile with my heart pounding in my ears as I approach Willow from behind. She stands with her back to me, oblivious to any danger.
In one quick motion, I thrust my hand forward, plunging it through her back and straight into her ribcage. I wrap my fist around her heart, feeling the sickening slide of flesh against my skin, and yank it free.
Willow lets out a piercing scream, and with one final, desperate cry, she crumples to the floor in a heap.
Her magic flows out of her body and straight through me. It is all too much for my body to handle. I knew the risk when I decided to do this.
I might die, but it will all have been worth it.
Despite the horror of what I’ve just done, I stand there triumphantly with her heart clutched in my hand.
Before I can revel in my victory, though, a chilling scream rends the air. “NOOOOO!” someone cries out, their voice filled with anguish and despair.
I turn to see my brothers, their faces twisted in shock and horror at the sight before them. I’ve done it. I’ve crossed a line that can never be uncrossed, and now I must face the consequences.
