"Why? What do you want to do instead?" she asks, grinning as she rolls on top of me and sways her hips back and forth.
I close my eyes as I feel her moist panties against my fingers.
"You know exactly what I want to do, sweetheart," I say, and I reach up and bring her down toward me and kiss her hard.
We both know that we're meant for each other, and now I'm going to show her just how much.
Chapter Thirty
Lila
I have never felt as happy as I have in the last month. It seems to me that my life can't be any better. I spend most evenings at Max's place, and when he's not home, Maria and I watch a movie or make dinner together. I feel like everything is finally falling into place in my life. Making love to Max has just gotten better and better, and we seem to have gotten into an easy relationship that makes me question how I've ever thought relationships could be hard. I suppose once you meet the one, you just know. My phone rings as I'm getting ready for bed and I see that it's Zara. "Hey," I answer. "What's up?"
"I was just checking to see how you're doing, stranger."
"I'm good. I've just been really busy between hanging out with Max and doing stuff with Marie. It's just been a lot."
"Yeah, I figured," she says. "You said you're going to have a dinner party next week, right?"
"Yeah. I'm really looking forward to it. I can check with Max if it's going to be Friday or Saturday if you want. I can't wait for you to meet him."
"Me either. How's the acting stuff going?"
"Oh, fine," I say, though a little bird in my head whispers that it's not really fine.
"Have you been to any auditions lately?"
"No, not really. I've been so focused on Max and I've been focused on working and trying to ensure that?—"
"But this wasn't supposed to be a job for the rest of your life, right? You were just doing it to make money so that?—"
"Yeah, but things in life change. It's not like I'm Angelina Jolie or Julia Roberts. I was probably never going to make it as an A-list star."
"But what about the fact that you wanted to get an Oscar and you wanted to write a play and produce your own show and?—"
"One day, Zara. You know how it is. What's that saying? A dream deferred is?—"
"Why are you deferring your dreams, Lila?"
"I'm not deferring my dreams. I'm really happy."
“I'm glad you've met Max, even though I don't even know him, and I'm glad that you're happy, but this all seems to be moving really quickly."
“I know you think that, but when you know, you know. It's not like he and I just met last night. We…sorry." I sigh deeply.
"I'm just concerned. It's not even about the relationship. I fell in love quickly as well. I just want to ensure that you're not giving up your dreams for love, because at one point you will come to resent him."
"I know, and I'm not giving up anything, okay?" I look up and I see Marie standing there, question on her face. "Hey, I'm just talking to Zara."
"Oh, I can't wait to meet her."
"Yeah, you'll meet her at the dinner party that we have. Hey, Zara, can I call you back? I'll speak to Max and see what day works."
"Okay," she says.
"I'll talk to you later."
"Sounds good."
