My cock twitches at the thought of taking her again, but this time, I want her warm in the bed so we can fall asleep in each other’s arms afterward.
“You felt so fucking good, bunny.” I kiss her forehead and roll onto the soil next to her, pulling her gentle frame against my chest.
Rain sprinkles down over us and the sun drifts behind a cloud. “Should we go inside?”
“No,” she whispers. “I like the rain. It’s warm.” Her eyes close and she stays on my chest as water patters down from the sky.
My phone rings again and again from beside the patch, but I ignore it.
“Sounds important.” She twists her fingers through the hair on my chest. “You think it’s about that bounty you were after? I mean, we’ve been distracted, but you should probably check.”
I know there’s reason in what she’s saying, but I can’t fathom the idea of leaving this spot. It’s too perfect.
“Whatever it is, it can wait.”
“Unless this guy is blowing things up, then I think you’d wish you’d have checked.” She leans up from the ground. “I’ll get it. You stay here. You’ve exhausted yourself working in the garden and all.”
I grin at her joke and drag in a deep breath before sitting up myself. I love that she cares about my work and wants me to succeed. The MC is a big part of my life, and bounty hunting is how I make my living, so I should be more concerned about what happens to the ten grand that’s running around. Trouble is, I’m not. All I want to do today is sit in this dirt with my bunny and stroke her until she’s satisfied… over and over again.
Bunny tosses me my phone and I swipe up, staring at the screen. It’s Reaper. I shouldn’t take this here. Who the hell knows what it could be about?
I hold up a finger and wander down the garden toward the tomato cages, checking the peppers on my way. I was right, they’re ready for harvest.
“Hey, man. What’s up?”
“Caught your fucker.” Reaper’s tone is deeper than usual, with a bit of mockery twisted in.
“The bomber asshole?”
“Yes, sir. He was up at the fucking quarry, bummin’ the fuck around. Took him down with Viper.”
I’m glad the guy is out of commission. He needed to go down, but I’m a little fucking bummed that I’m out of a bounty now.
“Gotta stop letting pussy distract ya,” Reaper jokes. “Anyway, your 187 is taken care of and Viper is taking the bounty in for booking. You’re gonna have to be faster on the next one, brother. You need the cash to finish that cabin.”
I need it for more than the cabin. My bunny is having a baby and I plan on making sure she has everything she needs. “That’s the truth. Talk to you later.”
Reaper hangs up the line and I turn back toward Lydia who’s standing a few feet away with my flannel draped over her shoulders. God, she looks beautiful. I don’t know how I got so lucky, or what I ever did to deserve her, but I swear to whoever’s in charge, I won’t take it for granted.
She turns in my direction. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah,” I rest her against my chest, “Reaper found the bomber. They’re bringing him in.”
“Is that good?”
“Yeah. It’s good for society as a whole.” I laugh as I say, “Just next time my bank account will appreciate it if I’m the one bringing in the bounties.”
“I distracted you. You’d have had that guy in the bag had you not been chasing after me and worrying about all my problems.”
I brush her dirty hair back away from her face, spreading more soil as I move. “No. This was my priority for a reason, bunny. You’re all that matters. The rest will fall into place.”
“I still feel bad, though. I don’t want to distract you. I want to make things easier for you.”
I kiss her forehead and tuck my hand into hers, guiding her back toward the cabin as the rain begins to fall harder. “You’re my girl, right?”
She nods.
“Okay then. Don’t feel bad. You’re not a distraction. Not ever.”
