Chapter Twenty-Four

Draco

––––––––

CATCHING THE WIND, Draco glided down to the landing spot his father had designed for the mountain lodge. Tucking his enormous crimson wings behind him, he peered into the elevated retreat. From his position it wasn’t easy to see if his younger brother and his new muse had vacated the building, but as he shifted back to his mortal body and grabbed his clothes from the small outhouse erected for the purpose, the pair came into view.

Sitting beside each other in what looked like robes, they looked exceptionally cozy.

“Oh, Cole.” Draco shook his head as he zipped up his hoodie. “Don’t tell me you’ve fallen foul of this new love-virus, as well?”

The last few months had seen each of his brothers susceptible in turn. Sebastian had been the first to reveal his affections for the daughter of his father’s old rival, Jonas Monroe, but then soon after Balthazar had upgraded his dalliance with Monroe’s son’s assistant to something more ‘meaningful.’ Draco shivered, but it wasn’t the freezing temperatures inspiring his chill. He couldn’t believe that all of his siblings were foolish enough to fall in love. What were they—thirteen-year-old girls?

Stalking to the front door, he punched in the passcode and strode inside.

“Draco?” Cole jumped to his feet, securing the belt at his waist as he approached. “You’re back!”

“Yep.” Draco’s gaze slid from his brother to the brunette beside him. She straightened at his stare, pressing her knees together.

Who did Cole introduce her as earlier? Eden? His lips twitched. Good name.

He’d wager the body beneath that robe was heavenly. She was older than he remembered, but carried herself with a sense of sophisticated style that appealed to him. “I live here, too.”

“Of course.” Cole glanced back at his new lover. “I just hadn’t expected you so soon.”

“I hadn’t expected you two to still be here.” Moving toward them, he smiled. “Eden, is it?”

“Yeah, hi.” Climbing to her feet, she thrust her palm out in his direction. “Sorry about before. Things got a little...” Her gaze skated to Cole. “Heated.”

“No problem.” Draco shook her hand, appreciating her firm grasp. “I’m Draco. Cole’s elder brother.”

“Right.” She eyed him knowingly. “He mentioned that he had a few of those.”

“I hate to be brash, but would you mind if I borrowed my brother for a few minutes?” He motioned to Cole. “I have some family business I need to discuss.”

“Can’t it wait?” Cole’s sigh spoke of exasperation. “We’re kinda busy here.”
