“But you were.”

His gaze caught mine a moment before he shook his head. “Put your seatbelt on.”

Turning my back to him, I jiggled the cuffs. “I don’t have any hands.”

Pulling the keys to the cuffs from his jeans pocket he undid the cuffs. “Put your seatbelt on. Don’t even try to make a run for it. I’ll be on you before your feet hit the sidewalk.

Taking a deep breath in, I slowly released it and nodded as tears began to well in my eyes. This was it. It was over for me. “Fine.”

I’d have other chances. Not sure how many, but a few. Pulling the seatbelt across, I clicked it into place.

“Now put your left palm on the dashboard.”

Spotting the grab handle in front of me, I knew what he planned. Once I did what I’d been told, he snapped the cuffs in place securing my left wrist to the dashboard hand grip.

“It’s a long drive to California. I figure it’ll be a four-day trip. If you behave and stay quiet, it’ll make this whole thing easier on both of us.”

Crinkling my nose up, I looked over at him as he started the SUV. “We’re driving?”

“Yes.” Putting the vehicle into gear he pulled onto the road, only giving me a glance.

“Why?” This was good. Real good. I had four days to plead my case. And if I couldn’t sway him then I may have an opportunity to escape. I had to. I just needed to make him a friend, or at the very least, an ally.

“None of your business.”

“It doesn’t make any sense. Are you afraid of heights?”

“Doesn’t need to make sense. Now zip it.” Turning on the radio, he kept his focus straight ahead.

DAYTON

She didn’t zip it.

In fact, her mouth never stopped. Going on and on about how she was innocent and trying every trick in the book to convince me to forget I found her.

Wasn’t going to happen.

And I knew exactly what she was trying to do. She wanted me to turn soft for her. If she thought I was the type of guy who could be swayed by a sad story and a pretty face then she was going to be in for a rude awakening.

In fact, I never wanted to gag a person so much in my life. Yet, I found myself listening more intently than I should. I was never one to be interested in celebrities and that life, but there was a small part of me that was curious. Granted that small part of me may have some encouragement from the ache in my dick each time the image of her in that tiny teddy sprang to mind. She was perfection. Physically anyhow. Any other way…

Well, that remained to be seen.

After only three hours of driving, I found myself growing tired, my mind beginning to fog up. In truth, her insistent talking was the only thing keeping my eyes open. As much as I wanted to get to California as soon as possible, I needed to be alert, and falling asleep at the wheel wasn’t going to do either of us any good.

Pulling into the parking lot of a roadside motel, I left her secured to my dash as I went to get a room. It was already five in the morning. With luck, I’d be able to get five hours sleep, secure us both a quick breakfast, and then be back on the road by noon. It was a solid plan.

Less than ten minutes later, I had a key in hand and parked in front of room fourteen. I ignored the look she shot me as I got out and unloaded the vehicle, bringing in her bag of money and our two backpacks of belongings.

Despite the rundown look of the motel on the outside, the inside wasn’t so bad. It smelled fresh enough and there wasn’t any noticeable wear on the carpet or discoloration of the paint on the walls. The bedding looked relatively new. It may not be up to the standards of her highness in the vehicle, but it would have to do.

Opening the passenger door of the SUV, I pulled the keys for her cuffs from my pocket. “Repeat after me. I will not try to escape. If I try to escape, Dayton will hunt me down like a dog, hogtie me, and toss me into the trunk with my mouth taped shut.”

Her eyes narrowed at me. “You’re a comedian now? Or is being an asshole your thing?”

Chuckling for the first time since I’d apprehended her, I nodded. “Just telling you how it will go down. Fair warning and all.”
