Goddamned Aaron, getting up from the sofa, I groaned loudly. He was standing on the other side of the open door attempting some sort of flex by still wearing his uniform. If Dylan had the same temper that he had when he was young this wasn’t going to end well. I needed to stop it before it even began.

“Aaron. Why are you here?”

Chapter 14

Dylan

I hated this man. I didn’t know who he was, but I had my suspicions. The look in his eyes and the posturing in his stance while donning his NYPD uniform was really all I needed to know. There was only one person who would have the balls to show up on New Year’s eve reeking of booze and demanding to see my girl.

This was the dick ex—Mr. Pencil Penis. He was just a tiny bit shorter than I was. The uniform made him look more muscular than I suspected he actually was. My eyes dropped briefly to the gun strapped to his hip and then back up taking note of the nametag identifying him as ‘Cooper.’

Why in the fuck was he here?

“Who are you? Where’s Maya?” Pencil Dick asked, attempting to push his way past me, but cop or no cop he wasn’t getting past me into this apartment.

Putting a hand out, I stopped him from proceeding into her home. “Who are you? And what do you want Maya for?”

“That’s between me and her. Now, whoever the hell you are, step aside.”

“Absolutely not.” I stood my ground. “She doesn’t want to see you. You’re not welcome here, and I suggest you head back to wherever it was you came from.”

“I’m not going to tell you--”

“Damn, Aaron, why are you here?” Maya came up from behind me and ducked under my arm to confront her ex. I had to force myself not to push her back behind me.

“I was thinking about our conversations the past week and I feel we should talk more privately. There’s been too much animosity between us. I just want to make things right.”

“There’s nothing to talk about and maybe I’m perfectly fine with the amount of animosity.”

He nodded towards me, causing the rage within me to intensify. “And who’s this clown?”

“He’s none of your business.”

“The guy you were found screwing in the park? You can’t be serious about this fool.”

“I’m the guy that she happily replaced you with,” Dylan chimed in, “Thanks for stopping by.”

Running a hand through my hair, I shook my head sighing, as the two men stared at each other. At any moment, one would make the first move and there was going to be a fight, I could tell just by looking at their posturing. I needed to keep this situation from escalating to that point. “Aaron, just go. Who he is isn’t any of your business.” Grabbing the door, I attempted to close it, but Aaron’s polished black boot stuck out, and with a push, he forced it open again.

And that was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Pushing past me, Dylan placed both hands on Aaron’s chest and roughly pushed him backwards. “The lady said get going. You’re not welcome or are you as dumb as you look? You pencil dicked piece of shit!”

“Dylan, stop.” Pressing a hand to Dylan’s chest, I pleaded with him with my eyes to be the bigger man and just back off. “Please. Don’t give him a reason.”

Aaron staggered back a couple of steps before regaining his balance. His green eyes flashed with anger, while the vein in his neck began to bulge. “Yeah, Dylan. How about you back down big boy, before you get in over your head.”

“What are you really going to do about it?” Brushing my hand off, he took another step toward his opponent, giving Aaron another shove, this time with more force sending him back and halfway into the hallway.

A look flashed in Aaron’s eyes—I’d seen that look many times before. His arm pulled back, and his hand fisted just before his it came in contact with Dylan’s jaw. Dylan groaned, but didn’t go down, instead charged Aaron tacking him at the midsection like he’d done back in the days of when he played football, sending their two bodies slamming against the opposite wall as they began exchanging blows the wreath on the neighbors’ door next to them falling to the ground.

“Stop it! Both of you before I taze you both!” It wasn’t my first choice, but it would be effective if needed.
