“That’s what you always used to say.”
Bending, I gathered a handful of snow and began forming it into a ball inching my way towards the building. “I mean it this time. I’m not a kid anymore and don’t appreciate childish games.”
“I’ll give you to the count of three to make it to the building before I snow ya.”
I hesitated for a split second until his counting spurred me into action.
“One…”
Dropping the snowball I’d made, I began to run, my speed and progress hindered by the thick snow.
“Two…”
I’d just made it past him, my eyes fixated on the building, willing myself to be able to run faster. I was merely a few yards from the exit of the park when I heard him yell ‘three’ and I felt the impact of the snowball as it hit me square between the shoulder blades.
Son of a bitch!
I stopped briefly to bend and scoop up some snow in my hands. Turning to retaliate, I pulled my arm back to send my snowball flying towards him. Dylan’s body collided with mine before I had a chance to launch my attack, sending us both toppling to the ground. As we fell, Dylan shifted our bodies so when we landed in the snow, I found myself straddling him, looking down into his eyes with each hand planted in the snow elbow-deep at either side of his head.
Ah-ha! The upper hand was mine!
“Say you’re sorry,” I demanded, “Or I swear to god.”
“Swear what?” he asked, grabbing my wrists in his. I squealed as he rolled our bodies over in one fluid motion, so it was him hovering over me, with my hands secure over my head. “What are you planning on doing now? Seems to me you’re at my mercy.”
I squirmed under his weight, attempting to buck him, but it was like attempting to move a brick wall. As I shifted and bucked against him, instead of increasing my need to get away, it was beginning to have the opposite effect, increasing my desire to remain where I was, indulging in the feel of his hard body pressed down on mine.
Looking into his eyes, a part of the ice wall around my heart melted creating another massive crack. “We should really go inside before we catch a cold.”
“We should.” Despite his words, he made no attempt to move off me. Instead, his lips drew nearer to mine. There was a fire building, a hunger in his eyes that I’d spent most of my life hoping to see when he looked at me.
My breath hitched in my throat. I needed to stop this. It wasn’t the right time and there were so many things wrong with this moment that I knew it needed to end. But I couldn’t stop it. As his lips lowered to mine, closing the distance, I stopped squirming against him, instead I wrapped my legs around his waist and pulled him down tight to me, feeling his rapidly growing erection pressing against my jean-covered pelvis.
His lips were soft and tender as they ghosted across mine.
“Dylan,” I breathed his name, my eyes closing as I allowed myself to become lost in the moment.
“Maya...” My name was spoken so softly against my lips I could barely make it out.
He released my hands, planting them on either side of my head as I wrapped my arms over his shoulders and pulled his head down for more. Parting my lips, I invited him in. His tongue swept past my lips searching out mine. Our tongues danced together, sending pleasure and need racing through me. The wall around my heart was now crumbling, exposing what I’d been keeping so heavily guarded.
My mind was racing as heat began to build between my legs. I needed to stop whatever it was that was going on between us, but at the same time, I never wanted it to end. Having him flush against me felt too good, much better than it should have felt. And God help me, I didn’t want it to stop. The coldness that had been keeping me chilled all day faded away to be replaced by the heat of my yearning for him.
But I had to stop this, at least for the moment. This really wasn’t the place, anyone could happen by us.
I almost had my resolve gathered enough to bring things between us to a temporary halt when an all too familiar sound blared. A siren, followed by flashes of red and blue.
Oh fuck my life!
My stomach felt like it was going to fall out of my ass. You’ve got to be kidding me. I knew what was coming next. They are going to come over to us, chastise us like we were naughty kids and may or may not issue a ticket for public indecency. I was going to be the laughingstock of the precinct the moment they recognized me. Maybe I’d get lucky, and they’d let us go without asking for identification. It was Christmas after all.
“Get off me,” I hissed, slipping my hands against Dylan’s chest and giving him a forceful push.
Laughing, Dylan rolled off me and onto his back spreadeagled beside me. I halfway expected him to start making a snow angel. “Uh-oh busted by the po-po.”
“It’s not funny, they may be my co-workers.” I grumbled under my breath so the officers wouldn’t hear.
He laughed a little harder.
