A smile of pure satisfaction spread across my lips as I cuddled tight to his side. “That was…”

“Amazing,” he finished with a grin creeping onto his features.

“I’ll sleep well tonight.” I was about to close my eyes and nestle my face into the nook between his shoulder and neck when he captured my chin in his hand and tilted my face up so I was looking into his eyes.

“You don’t work tomorrow. Who says I was going to let you sleep at all tonight?” Grabbing my hand, he slid it down his body for me to discover his dick was already on the rise again.

“Already?”

Lifting a brow, his grin widened. “Again and again until you’re so exhausted you can’t handle anymore and beg me to stop.”

Laughing, I shook my head. “That won’t happen.”

Slipping his hand to the back of my head, he urged my lips down to his. “We’ll see, baby. We’ll see.”

Chapter 12

Maya

I was such a stupid person. I could have had a nice holiday, but instead I was stuck going to work while my man was at home naked and waiting for me to come home. But work had to be done and he had an audition anyhow. Fingers crossed he did well, he really seemed to have his heart set on acting. I had my doubts but wanted to be supportive. He seemed logical about it and was already passing out resumes and filling out online applications around the city as a back-up.

The station was quiet today, so I breathed a sigh of relief. I’d have a nice day at work and then I’d get home to my man, and we’d have a nice dinner. We still hadn’t gotten around to buying groceries. Maybe we’d do that tonight. The idea of going to the market and getting groceries with Dylan felt nice—so normal.

Humming a song that I had no idea the name of as I walked through the station to my desk, my solitude was interrupted by footsteps rushing behind me and a sudden appearance by Aaron.

Well, so much for it being a great day.

“Do they schedule us for the same day just to make my life hell, or does fate hate me?” I asked as his strides matched mine and we continued to my desk.

“That’s harsh.”

“It’s reality. What do you want Aaron? I figured we both said what was needed last time or are you a sucker for punishment?”

“Maybe I’m just an advocate for making things right. Or maybe I’m a man who isn’t too proud to admit that he may have made a mistake.”

“May have made a mistake?” Laughing, I shed my jacket and draped it over the back of the chair. “May is the understatement of the year.”

“Fine, you’re right. I made a massive mistake. I am truly sorry about it.”

“Great. You’re sorry. Apology taken and accepted. Now leave.” Leaning back in my chair, I clasped my hands in front of me. “I’m waiting on the rookie so we can start patrol for the day.”

He didn’t leave. There was a look of indecision in his eyes. A look that told me he had something more to say.

“Don’t be angry…”

When a person looks you straight in the eye and starts a sentence with ‘don’t be angry’ you know you’ll be pissed. “What did you do?” I had a sinking suspicion in the pit of my stomach that I knew very well what he did.

“I may have pulled a string or two to get them to move me into the spot of your partner until Travis comes back from holidays.”

Red, searing anger filled me as I stood up so suddenly that the chair I was sitting in went flying backwards and fell to the floor on its side. “You did what!” My voice boomed making everyone within hearing range—which was virtually everyone in the room—turn and stare. The talking stopped immediately and voices turned to whispers.

“It’s just for a few days. Just until Travis comes back.” Rushing around the desk, he grabbed the chair and set it back onto its feet.

I huffed, shaking my head at his brazenness. “I’m talking to the captain and we’re going to fix this.”

“It’s a done deal. The kid is already out and on patrol.”
