“There’s no more gunfire…” I said, more to myself than to my sister.
“No, I think it’s over.”
As if on cue, the side door to the van pulled open and I breathed a sigh of relief to see Ash looking down at me. Our gazes locked and for a minute the joy within me was so intense I’d forgotten the world around us. “Ash…”
“Turn around, I’ll free your hands.” Doing as told I turned to my side away from him and after a couple painful tugs my hands were free. They hadn’t bothered to tape up my ankles like they had on my sister.
Sitting back up and turned back to him, I gasped. “Whose blood is all over you?” His face, hands, and front of his shirt and vest were covered in blood.
“Hard to say. Stay in the van and get to the back to make room.” He didn’t wait for me to respond, disappearing and expecting me to comply.
“Make room for what?” I scooted back to my original spot at the back of the van next to Gabriella.
“For the dead and wounded,” Gabriella supplied, her voice devoid of emotion.
“Dead and wounded…” I echoed… Phoenix was still out there. I started to scramble to get out when Ash reappeared with Phoenix leaning against him, looking pale.
“I’m fine,” Phoenix growled.
“You’ve got a bullet in your side, idiot. You’re not fine. Just get inside.” Ash growled.
With a grunt, Phoenix got in. Rushing to Phoenix’s side, I pulled up his shirt and cringed at seeing the wound. It was at his hip and didn’t look like the bullet had gone in, but it had taken a chunk out of him.
“I’m fine. It went through and through. No serious damage, just hurts like a fucker.” His eyes narrowed as he looked me directly in the face. “What the fuck happened to your face.”
With all the excitement I’d forgotten about the pain at my cheek. Placing one hand at the throbbing skin, I pulled my hand away to see blood.
“She got grazed by a bullet. She’s fine,” Gabriella cut in.
Moments later three men appeared, carrying Cisco. He didn’t look like he was moving. His chest wasn’t going up or down. “Is he…”
“He’s dead. Now get to the back of the van,” Ash commanded in a voice so harsh it took me aback. Looking at Phoenix, he nodded. Reluctantly, I scooted my way to the back of the van, despite hating that I had to leave Phoenix when he was hurt.
“Roll out!” Talon screamed, motioning for the vehicles to move as he hopped into the van, followed by Ash, who closed the door behind them. The engines of the vehicles all roared to life and we jolted forward. “What a fucking shit show that was…” Talon groaned, running a blood-covered hand through his blond hair leaving a streak of blood in its wake.
