Looking up at her, I pushed the hair out from my eyes. “I can’t believe you’d accept your parents would do such a thing so easily.”

She shrugged. “You’re really not seeing the world clearly. My parents got what they wanted. My father was infertile from my understanding, though it was never really talked about. So they adopted me as a newborn. Known criminals and ex-cons aren’t exactly pushed to the top of the list for adoptions. I wondered from time to time how they even managed to get past the adoption screening.” There was a moment’s hesitation. “I wasn’t too old when I figured it out – more or less. I was happy with my life so I didn’t put much thought into it.”

“Wow, that’s a lot to process.”

“Welcome to my world, sister. If it’s easy then it’s not my life.”

Watching Gabriella eat, I wondered about her and her club. They did some heinous things if what Ash and Phoenix said was true. I hated to believe the woman before me, the woman who shared my genes could be capable of stuff like kidnapping and destroying lives with heroin and meth.

She was the one who broke the silence. “So, is Talon on the up and up?” she asked after swallowing the last bite of pancake and placing the plastic fork on the plate.

Cocking my head to the side, I looked at her quizzically. “What do you mean?”

“Is he going to go through with the deal or does he have a plan to fuck my old man over?”

“Yes, Talon wants to get this figured out. He wants his daughter to have a future, so he’ll follow through.”

“Hmm.” She opened the bottle of water and took a drink. “Can’t say I’d trust Raven to do the right thing and follow through as you put it.”

I groaned. We didn’t need more complications. “Seriously? Why wouldn’t he?”

Laughing, she leaned back against the wall and eyed me, her onyx eyes, which were identical to mine, staring into mine. “Because he likes to whore around. And because I’m betting he already knows that I’ve been fucking around as well. Doubt he knows with who otherwise my boyfriend would be dead by now. But I’d say he’s done with me. If he indeed wants me back then it’s to save face and deal with me.”

Frowning, I shook my head. I didn’t even know this woman, but I was already starting to form a sense of protectiveness toward her. “That’s fucked up, Gabriella.”

“Yeah. Tell me about it. But it’s the life we’re living.”

“What do you mean by we?”

“I mean the life I’m leading and the life you’re starting to lead.”

My frown deepened. “I’m still not following. If anything I’m more confused.” Despite my words, I had a feeling I knew what she was referring to – the two muscled gods in the other room that my body yearned for. Heat began to creep up my neck and to my cheeks. Embarrassed she might see through the façade, I looked away.

“I knew it.”

Turning back to look at her, I sighed; she had a cat-that-ate-the-canary look on her face.

“Don’t say anything.” I looked at her, pleading with my eyes for her to drop the subject. “Let’s just keep this to ourselves.”

“Keep what to yourselves?” I jumped so quickly off the bed, I nearly fell. Spinning around I watched as Phoenix stormed down the hallway, annoyance etched into his handsome features, wearing a pair of jogging pants and nothing else. “And what are you doing in here with her?” He pinned me with an angered look, waiting for my excuse.

Cringing, I looked over at Gabriella, who seemed to be enjoying this exchange.

“Answer me. Why are you in here when you were specifically told do not open this door?” Rage flared in his eyes as he stared at me and my sister.

The part of me that wanted to slink away from his heated stare disappeared and my temper took over. Planting my hands on my hips, I returned his glare with one of my own, challenging him with my eyes to continue to reprimand me in front of my newfound sister. “She was hungry and I brought her food. The least we can do is feed her.”

His jaw clenched. “Fine.” He put his hand out. Give me the keys and you won’t be coming in here again without one of us with you. She’s dangerous.”

Motioning to my sister, I replied, “She’s shackled.”

“Don’t test me, woman. Give me the keys and go.”

We stared at each other, neither one of us willing to give in to the other’s will.

“What’s going on?”

I groaned out loud, not Ash too.

“Come on in Ash, we’re having a little party in here,” Gabriella called to him.

Craning my neck, I looked down the hallway to see Ash heading in our direction also in just a pair of jogging pants, which were riding low on his hips. Damn. Twice the temptation, making my pussy clench, but with it came twice the scolding.
