Chapter 10
Lola
“So what now?” Stepping out from my hiding space at Ash’s back, I took a couple of steps forward and looked at both the men. “What did he mean by he’d re-evaluate the situation? Now that you two know the truth I’ll be let go, right?”
I didn’t like the look that was exchanged between the two men.
“Seriously, I can go soon, can’t I?”
Phoenix sighed and raked his hand through his hair. “It’s complicated Gab– Ahh fuck. Lola. It’s just not a matter of us letting you go about your merry way.”
“Why isn’t it? I’m not Gabriella. When you find her, I leave. Simple. Not complicated. Simple.”
He looked down at me and shook his head. “Not simple.”
I immediately felt sick to my stomach as the room started to spin. I needed to sit down before I fell down. “I… Umm.” Losing my footing I stumbled backward and then felt myself falling. Closing my eyes, I braced myself for the impact of the floor, but it never came.
Opening my eyes, I realized that Ash had caught me as I fell and had scooped me up into his arms.
“I’m fine.” Despite my protest, I closed my eyes again and let my head lay down against his chest. His body was so nice and warm. The power I felt as his arms held me gave me a sense of security that I didn’t want to give up.
“Grab a pillow from the chair for her.” Ash lowered me onto the sofa while Phoenix placed a pillow under my head.
“I’m fine. Really.” Opening my eyes, I looked up at the two concerned men staring down at me. The room was still spinning slightly so I didn’t make an attempt to sit up.
“Have you eaten yet?” Ash bent and brushed a lock of stray hair from my face.
“Not really. But I model for a living; not eating is part of the business.”
Ash scowled. “I’ll go make some supper for us all. It’s getting late. If you can keep an eye on her?”
“Yeah.” Phoenix sat in the chair next to the sofa as Ash disappeared into the kitchen. Leaning forward, he grabbed the remote for the television and flicked it on. “Anything you’d care to watch?”
“No.” As he flipped through the channels looking for something for us to watch I studied him. When I thought of a biker, I usually associated them with long scraggly beards, but his was well trimmed. I’d seen models who had beards that didn’t look as good as his. The dark hair of his beard had just trace amounts of gray peeking through in a couple of spots.
“Are all your tattoos American traditional?” I was always one to admire a well-inked tattoo. From what I could tell, he seemed to have more body than not tattooed already.
Turning his attention from the TV, he smiled and nodded. His smile made my heart skip a beat. Well, either it was the smile that did it or I was close to passing out again. Pick your poison really.
“They’re mostly American traditional, yes.”
“They’re over your entire body?”
His grin widened. “Would you like to get a little look for yourself.”
“I kinda would actually.” What would it hurt really? Perhaps now that they knew I wasn’t the woman they despised, we could figure something out that involved me getting out of here. Wouldn’t hurt to have a fresh start with them.
“All right.” Standing, he shed his vest and grabbing the hem of his t-shirt he slowly began to inch it up his body. He took his time inching the shirt up, no doubt he knew how ungodly sexy he was and was giving me an eyeful.
Running my tongue along my lower lip, my eyes scanned his hard abs and then followed upward to his thick chest with defined pecs. His abdominals didn’t have many tattoos of notable mention, but his chest certainly did. Spanning across his entire chest was a bald-headed eagle with the American flag flying in the background.
“That’s amazing.” Sitting up on the sofa, I couldn’t resist reaching out and touching the stunning work of art. His pecs flexed as I ran my fingers along his chest. “What’s on your back?”
“If you want me to drop my pants, I can really give you something to see.”
Heat started at my chest, up my neck and to my cheeks. Tattooed men were a weakness and this new dynamic between us was making me feel secure enough to allow myself to feel desire for him. My future wasn’t set yet, but I was confident they wouldn’t hurt me – not now that they knew who I was. I was an innocent – just like Lily – caught up in this mess. Gathering myself, I decided I had to stop before my desire impaired my judgment. I looked up and rolled my eyes at him.
“Thanks, but I’ll pass.”
