Along with the abundance of questions, excitement filled me. I could finally go home! A grin began to spread across my lips.
That excitement was squashed almost as quickly as it came, the smile on my lips so brief it was as if it had never happened. I knew too much. I’d been kidnapped and assaulted. I was a loose end. I had watched enough true crime stories to know that loose ends aren’t just released into the wild with a promise to never say anything. Loose ends got tied up.
Chewing at my lower lip, I felt a tremble race down my spine. The idea of being a loose end was frightening. I looked up at Ash, hoping to get some reassurance that it would be all right, but his expression was stony as he kept a watchful eye over the two men.
“This is what is going to happen.” Talon reached out and grasped Eddy by the back of the neck. You’re going to go back to the clubhouse and you’re going to gather a couple guys and tear this county apart until you find Gabriella. We need to find her before Raven does. Are we clear?”
He nodded, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he gulped. “Yes, sir.”
Releasing Eddy, Talon took a step away from the other man. “Good. Go. The only news I want to hear is good news.”
“On it.” Eddy nodded and practically ran from the cabin, followed moments later by the sound of a bike being revved up.
Talon groaned pressing his palms to his eyes. “I’m getting a fucking headache,” he said to no one in particular, before fixing his gaze onto mine. There was more to his anger over the mistaken identity. When I looked hard enough at him, I could see the concern for his daughter. I was his ticket to his daughter’s freedom and now he was without leverage. “And you.”
I cowered despite myself, taking a couple steps back and to the right, so his view of me was partially obscured by Ash’s large frame. “This means I’m going home then.” What did I have to lose by asking, right?
“Sorry. That’s not going to be happening. For whatever reason he thinks you’re Gabriella so until we find the real Gabriella you’re not going anywhere.”
“So after she’s found?” I waited on bated breath for his answer.
“When she’s found I’ll re-evaluate the situation. Until then I have some business to address.” He looked to Ash and then Phoenix. “She’s to be kept under lock and key until further orders.” Talon didn’t wait for a reply, knowing they’d do as told, and exited without another word to any of us, slamming the door so hard behind him that the room shook. One thing I was beginning to realize was that the men that of the Road Justice club had unwavering loyalty to the club and Talon.
