Chapter 13

~ Five Days Later ~

Brock

“Dammit!” I growled, looking at the screen and pounding a fist onto the top of the desk in frustration. What in the hell do we do now? This blizzard had turned out to be one of the worst the area had seen in close to a century. Power lines were being taken out and I wasn’t able to get any type of phone or internet connection.

“What’s wrong?” Genevieve asked, coming up behind me and sliding a hand across my chest and planting a gentle kiss on the side of my neck. The contact made my dick jerk, but I wasn’t in the mood for that right now.

“We are officially on our own. There’s no internet. There’s no power and God only knows how long it’ll be before it’s fixed. Without any connection to the outside world we have no idea what’s going on with the fugitives or when help may be on the way.”

Closing my eyes, I allowed my head to fall back against her shoulder. Her perfume smelled so nice—like fresh roses. It was faint, just enough to make me want to stay close to her, indulging in the scent.

“We’ve got lots of supplies. We’ll be fine,” she said, placing a kiss at my temple.

Fuck, I could get seriously used to having her around. I should be frustrated with the blizzard crisis building by the second, but having her so close was calming me, making me feel as though the loss of power, internet and cell service was nothing but an inconvenience.

“That’s not entirely the issue, baby.” Pulling out of her embrace, I spun the chair around, gripped her waist and pulled her down onto my lap. It wouldn’t hurt to enjoy her presence for a few minutes before I went outside and checked the generator and scouted the area.

“It can’t snow forever.”

I laughed, giving my head a shake. She simply wasn’t seeing the severity of the situation. “It’s been snowing for a week. We’re nearing a state of emergency at this point.”

“But right now, it’s fine. Even if we lose the generator, we have tons of firewood and an entire forest to keep the heat going.”

I wished I could just live in her mind for a little while. “This isn’t New York, baby. We’re in the middle of nowhere. We are hardly their priority.” She did have a point to a certain extent. “But you’re forgetting we’re not the only people out here. There’s others out there that may not be as prepared. It’s part of my job to ensure that they are safe as well.”

Nodding, she replied with a wicked gleam in her eyes. “Then perhaps you guys should have kidnapped them and brought them here to your lair as well.”

A roar of laughter erupted from me. “Perhaps you’re right. But remember as of yesterday the fugitives were still being spotted in town. They’re using the storm to stay hidden and strike when they need something.”

“Opportunists at the core.”

“Yeah. I guess you could say that.”

She leaned into me and nuzzled my neck, sending a delicious shiver through me. I’d better be careful and stop this soon or I’d be scooping her up into my arms and carrying her to the bedroom and getting nothing accomplished today. My dick had other plans though as it began to press against the restrictive denim.

“We can’t do this.”

“I think we can. I need more motivation for the book,” she whispered, nipping at my ear.

“Nope.” Gathering every ounce of resolve that I had in me, I grabbed her by the waist and lifted her off my lap and forced her to her feet, standing before her. She looked so cute standing in front of me. The foot and a little bit between our respective heights made such a huge difference, she was like fun-sized in comparison to me. “Motivation can happen later.” Giving her a swat on the ass, making her jump and blush I walked past her. “Work to do.”

She groaned and rolled her eyes at me. “You know what they say, all work and no play.”

“All work and no play makes for a safe stay at Casa Brock and Tyler.”

Her eyes twinkled as she laughed. “All right.” She turned and began to walk to her room. I silently watched her ass sway back and forth with each step. She was intentionally doing it for me, the little vixen, trying one last time to tempt me. At the doorway she looked over her shoulder at me. “As long as you’re sure you can’t put it off a little longer.”

What a brat. I grinned. “I’ve got lives to save.”

“Then I guess I’ll work then. You know where to find me if you change your mind.” She hesitated.

Raising a brow and pretending to be unperturbed by her, I motioned for her to carry on into the bedroom. She obliged, giving me one final pouty look over her shoulder. Crazy woman. I stood there for a moment, staring at the empty doorway. There was something different about Genevieve, I couldn’t put my finger on it, but there was. It wasn’t just my dick that got excited around her, but there was something deep down in me that just felt better when she was near. She’d only been with us a week and I was already beginning to wonder what it would be like without her. I wasn’t even sure if I could visualize life here with her gone.

“Yo. Dude. Hey!”

A sharp snapping sound broke me from the momentary trace I seemed to be in and brought me back to the present. Looking to my right there was Tyler, a towel slung around his waist and a frown on his face.
