“Oh my god, are you pregnant??” Aleena asks, making me smirk as I flush the toilet. I’m still catching my breath from how fast and awful getting sick was. My throat even hurts.
“No,” I croak. “I think I ate something bad. I’ll clean up in here. Sorry.”
“Don’t worry. Take it easy,” she says. There’s a weird glint in her eyes as she closes the door behind her and I groan.
The last thing I need is Aleena telling people that I’m pregnant. Fuck, can this day end already?
Flushing the toilet, I clean up the bathroom and then brush my teeth. I’m already tired, but I have this odd pent up energy too. Throwing on a pair of workout pants and cropped shirt, I open up my laptop to email a quick message to my therapist.
Hi- Do you have any appointments open today? Something weird happened today, and I need to talk.
-Cassie
Looking up the next sparring session at the gym, I see one is open in the next half an hour. Throwing on my shoes, I grab my water bottle and keys before walking out the door. I need to feel in control of things again, which means beating the shit out of people.
Chapter Two
Cassie hasn’t been responding to my texts at all today, and I want to hear her voice. I know I’ve been friend-zoned, but I feel like something is wrong. There’s this odd tightness in my chest that I can’t shake.
Biting my lip, I walk to my next class. There’s a group of jocks laughing and shoving each other, and I roll my eyes. They don’t typically bother me, but I’m in my head and annoyed already. Giving them a wide berth, I try to get around them. There’s a bark of laughter, making my head turn. The guy has his hood over his face, chatting with one of the guys next to him.
“Hey, sweetness. Did you want some of Soren, too? He tends to get all the ladies,” one of the dickheads says with a wink.
“Ew,” I mutter, shaking my head. I wonder if this is the guy that Trent was telling me about. I don’t know how he deals with frat members that are cavemen. Hoping if I’m on the phone they’ll leave me alone, I pull it out to call him. Maybe I can pretend to be on the phone…
Trent picks up right away when I call, and I can feel my shoulders start to relax.
“Hey, gorgeous. How are you doing?” Trent asks, making me smile. He really is the sweetest.
“I’m walking to my last class of the day, and I’m already tired,” I sigh. “I’m good though…”
“You sound odd. What side of campus are you on?” he asks.
“I’m by the Literary Arts building. I’m not far now from class. There’s just—” I lower my voice as I walk faster to get ahead of the guys. “I was catcalled a bit just now, so I figured it would be better if I was on the phone.”
“Ugh. I swear, I hope it’s not my fraternity. They’ve been acting worse ever since that new guy, Soren, joined. I don’t know what to do,” he groans.
Glancing over, I wince as I see they are wearing Alpha Sigma Pi letters. “Sorry to break it to you, but they’re definitely your brothers. I’m almost there, I promise. Will you stay on the phone with me, please?” I ask.
There’s an unfamiliar growl over the line, and I almost stumble.
“I’m to your left, beautiful,” Trent says, and when I glance I see him jogging over to me. His black curls bounce a little, but his jaw is locked in anger. I feel as if I’m missing something.
Hanging up, I ignore the guys behind me as Trent’s thumb presses my chin to look up at him. “I just needed to see you,” he rumbles, kissing me hard. His lips are soft, and I forget myself as I moan into his mouth.
There’s snickering behind me, and Trent looks up. “Don’t fuck with my girl. I don’t care if you didn’t know, now you do.”
“Yeah, I do. Fucking hot body, too. I think you can do better, gorgeous!” Why do I know that voice?
“God, Soren. You make it hard not to want to break your face when you speak,” Trent grumbles, throwing his arm around my shoulders as he begins to walk away from them.
Ah. It’s the bag of dicks.
“I can see why you can’t stand him,” I murmur once we’re out of earshot.
“Yeah,” he sighs. “I’m an asshole. I didn’t need to come pee all over you, but I did anyway. I’m really sorry. It’s just that I don’t want him anywhere near you. He’s not a good guy, Lyra.”
“Look,” I grin. “I’m not about the golden showers, but you can pee on me all you want. I’m not going anywhere, and I think we have a date, don’t we?”
