“Yeah, we’re just in time for our reservation, and I’m starving,” he says, his hands easily settling on the small of our backs to lead us forward.
It’s not a smarmy or arrogant move, it’s just Trent being himself.
The restaurant is busy, and Trenton gives his name with a smile. We’re led to a booth, and Cassie sits in between us. Her thigh rubs against mine, taking my breath away, yet again.
Our booth is tucked away, the low voices in the background the only reminder that there are people near us. It gives everything an intimate feeling.
Ordering water and appetizers, we chat together. Without thinking about it, I turn toward them, my hand on Cassie’s thigh.
“I feel like we see each other but don’t get a chance to talk,” I tell them, my thumb rubbing over Cassie’s skin, enjoying the goosebumps.
“My fraternity brothers kind of suck right now, so I’m trying not to focus on it,” Trent grumbles, drawing Cassie’s attention.
“Why? Something happen?” she asks.
“We have a new guy, Soren, who is a legacy, and everyone thinks he’s amazing,” Trent explains. “I just don’t like him. The way he talks about women is disgusting, and it brings down the standards of the fraternity. Guys are gross to begin with, but this takes it to a different level.”
Cassie stiffened at the name, and I wonder if she’s had issues with him. I know I have, the guy is a douchebag. However, her lips twitch at his last words.
“I don’t think you’re gross,” Cassie snickers, making him smile.
His hand rising, he plays with one of her gorgeous ringlets. “I’m loving the curls,” he murmurs, brushing his lips over her forehead. Instead of pulling away, a look of bliss drifts over her features.
“This party for the weekend is all planned out, which is my responsibility since I’m on leadership. But fuck, if this guy didn’t try to give me shit as I walked out of the house for dinner.” He sighs. “I should be able to take my best girls out, don’t you think?”
I love the sound of that, and the waitress interrupts Cassie before she can say anything. Appetizers appear, and I have to admit that I’m starving.
Trent said the baked goat cheese dip was supposed to be good, so that’s the first thing I taste. Moaning, my eyes close as I chew. So good.
“Notice that’s almost the noise she makes when she comes,” Cassie says dryly. My eyes pop open, not surprised to see Trent and her smirking at me.
“It’s so good, I fully expect to see a happy booty food dance happen from one of you,” I giggle.
Trent rolls his eyes, taking a bite, but his eyes close in bliss. “Let the record show that my cock is rock hard from this bite,” he mumbles.
We have way too much fun teasing and laughing as we eat. Dinner flies by, and soon we order a couple of desserts to share.
“Cassie,” Trent says, turning toward her. “I feel like we need to tell you how much we miss you. I miss our ridiculous food dates, kissing you, and getting to touch you whenever I want.”
“I miss being able to cuddle with you. I sleep like shit without you.” I sigh. “I know why you’re worried, but I really think it’s worth the risk.”
“You don’t… We don’t know who the stalker is,” she grumbles. “He or she could be anyone. The last person I dated ended up dead.”
“Is that really what you think?” Trent asks, his hand tangling in her hair as he makes her look at him. “You were new at school, you didn’t know her long.”
“The note told me as much when I found Dena the night of the show,” Cassie confirms. “You both are too important to me. I’m better off alone.”
“You’re doing so well alone that you’ve stopped eating?” I ask. “I think this is the first time I’ve seen you eat in a really long time.”
Blowing out a breath, she shrugs. “Every time I try to eat, my anxiety gets out of control and I end up losing my appetite or puking. Lyra, there are people from our high school here, and one of them moo’d at me!”
My lips part, and I know I’m snarling in anger. “No. It’s not happening again. I won’t allow it,” I growl.
Blowing out a breath, she says. “The mooing started today. These things get out of hand quickly, and I’m sure it’ll be all over campus soon.”
“Who the fuck is mooing at you?” Trent rumbles, dipping his head down to brush his lips against hers. “You’re beautiful. All I want to do is feed you, leave you little snacks to eat, and know you’re okay. We need you around, baby.”
His head dips again, deepening the kiss, and the only shred of jealousy I feel is that I want to kiss Cassie too.
