“Mmmm. Was that so hard?” I tease her, curling my body around her.

“No,” Cassie breathes, and I smirk, wondering if I broke her.

“Where are you headed, beautiful?” I ask, laying my cheek against her hair.

“English class. Then Frank wants me to see him during his lunch break. He said something about proof of life,” she snorts.

Thinking back to what Lyra and I were worried about during our run, I don’t think that’s so left field. I was hoping we’d run into each other today. Not only so I could drop my suggestion of dinner, but because I just really fucking miss her.

“Hmmm. Frank may be onto this proof of life thing, Cassie. The last couple of days have been a little hectic, and I may be with Lyra, but we’re still friends, right?” I ask, even though the words taste sour in my mouth. I want to be so much more than that.

Cassie stiffens a little, but I gently rub her back. I don’t want to make her feel bad about her decisions; however, I do want her to rethink them. She doesn’t have to be alone. We can walk with her as she figures shit out.

Sighing, she melts into my body. “Yeah, Trent. We’re still friends,” she murmurs, rubbing her cheek against my chest. I swear she inhales deeply, and can’t help but wonder if she’s smelling me. I don’t think it’s odd at all, because her blackberry and vanilla scent curls around me.

My thumbs rub her sides, but I frown when I can feel her ribs. I wonder if she’s eaten today…

“Will you have dinner tonight with me?” I blurt out, thoughts of filling her with food running through my head. If nothing else, I’m worried about Cassie.

“Hmm, tonight?” she asks, looking up at me. My face is so close to hers that I could brush my mouth against her delicious lips, but I restrain myself.

Don’t fuck this up, Montgomery.

“Yeah, there’s a new Italian restaurant I really want to try. Come out with Lyra and I just to hang out, eat, and relax. Does that sound like something you’d like to do?” I ask.

I know eating in front of people is hard for her at times. Cassie’s stomach gurgles, betraying her.

“I think you’re hungry, baby,” I chuckle darkly. I don’t want to make a big deal about it, so I pull out a granola bar from my backpack. “I’m sure you’ve been busy studying if you missed breakfast, right? You’re so lucky I have to keep snacks with me.”

“I guess I am pretty lucky, huh?” Cassie asks absently with a smile, taking the bar from me. “I’ll eat this on my way to class. Thank you for taking care of me, Trent.”

Lifting onto her toes, she brushes her lips along my jaw. I’m blocking anyone from seeing Cassie, so it’s completely safe. “It’s no trouble,” I murmur as she pulls away.

“Text me about where to meet for dinner?” she asks shyly, and I nod.

“Meet me in the lobby with Lyra at seven?” I think we’re all done with classes by at least four in the afternoon today, but I wait for her confirmation.

“Yes, got it. See you later,” Cassie smiles, walking away.

Taking a full breath for the first time since I saw her, I drop my head back. I can’t believe she said yes!

Pulling out my phone, I let Lyra know tonight is a go.

Me: Operation Get my Girl to Moan as she Eats Dessert is a go.

Lyra: Where do you come up with this stuff? How do you know I don’t moan when I eat a cannoli? What time are Cassie and I meeting you?

My dick jerks at the torture of having Lyra suck on something that isn’t me. God, she’s so deliciously evil!

Me: I will be thinking of you sucking on me… I mean, a cannoli for the rest of the day, thank you very much. I’ll see you at seven tonight in the lobby of your dorm.

Lyra: Ooops? How am I getting changes of clothes downstairs too?

Me: We’ll have to manage finding time for a quickie, I mean, a bag exchange.

Lyra: Are we drug runners too now? You’re a nut. Miss your face.

Grinning, I respond with a ridiculous text, chuckling under my breath as I walk to my last class of the day. I’m seriously the luckiest guy ever.
