Chapter Six
After running back to the house to shower and making reservations for the hotel and dinner, I blow out a breath as I get ready to leave for class.
“Hey, Montgomery!” Soren yells behind me, using my last name like the ass that he is.
“I’m gonna be late, man,” I sigh, turning toward him. I have my overnight bag over my shoulder to stash in my car for tonight, and I can feel Soren’s eyes on it.
“Where are you going? Are you ditching us for pussy?! We have a party to plan! It’s Thursday, for fuck’s sake,” he complains.
I can feel the beginnings of a headache build between my eyes, but I force myself to appear calm. I’ll end up rearranging his face if he pushes anymore.
“Everything is set up and ready,” I say coolly. “The beer kegs are arriving Saturday morning, the liquor run has been made, and I already set up the pizza order. This isn’t the first time I’ve done this, and it surely won’t be the last. I’m surprising my girl with a night away, but I’ll be back tomorrow. Is that a problem?”
“You really don’t like me, huh?” Soren’s hands tug through his too-perfect blond hair, his brown eyes carrying a harsh glint. “I just want to party, feel welcome in my new fraternity, and be surrounded by my choice of tight pussy. Think you can handle that?”
“Yeah, I can,” I grunt. “The sorority girls are excited for a party, and they’re coming. Short skirts, perky tits, everything that’s up your alley. Everything will go as planned.”
Nodding tightly, he shrugs. “I hope so, for your sake. My father has been asking how I’m settling in, and I’m a legacy,” he threatens. Fuck, that’s the last thing I need. No wonder Alex is up his ass. If Soren isn’t happy, that means the leadership for Alpha Sigma Pi will get shit on and possibly stripped.
I’m on the leadership team as the Brotherhood Chairman. What is it going to look like if I can’t properly welcome the new brother?
Deflating, I nod tightly. “Understood. I plan epic parties, and use the same vendors every year. They always come through. You just have to come ready to party.”
“Fuck yeah! You’re the man, Montgomery! I’ll be ready!” Soren yells as I turn away.
My fraternity brothers start to chant my name too, and I can’t help the grin on my face. I hate the bullshit politics of Greek life, but I love the camaraderie.
Walking out of the house, I can only hope that things get better between Soren and I. Maybe he’s less of a giant asshole once you get to know him? Fuck if I know.

The morning flies by, and I even run into Cassie. Her curly hair lays in loose ringlets, she’s wearing light makeup, and looks gorgeous. I can tell she hasn’t been sleeping well because under her eyes look slightly bruised, but I hope Lyra and I can help her.
“Cassie,” I shout as she rushes past me. She’s in her own little world, and I realize she has earbuds in. Reaching out, I let my hand brush hers, jumping back when she startles.
Cassie went into attack mode instinctively, but instead of getting upset, I’m proud of her. I want to know that she can take care of herself. The campus hasn’t been very safe this year.
Pulling out her earbuds, her eyes widen.
“Trent! Oh my goodness, I could have hurt you,” she gasps.
“My fault for startling you, beautiful. I just wanted to hug you on the way to class and say hello,” I tell her easily. This is really how I see it. Any pain caused to me for startling my badass girl would have been on me.
Now if she’ll just agree to be mine. Well, ours.
“You wanted a hug?” Cassie asked, surprised.
“Yep,” I say, opening my arms to wait. I look like an idiot, but I don’t care who sees as they walk by. It’s a hug, we’re friends, her stalker can take a chill pill. I’m also not easy to scare off.
Biting her lip, she steps hesitantly toward me. “You’re ridiculous,” she giggles.
“Doesn’t change the fact that you’re leaving me hanging, Cassie,” I chuckle. “Do you want a hug or not?”
I start to lower my arms, as if the window is closing.
“No!” she squeals, slamming into me like a tiny linebacker.
Barking out a laugh, I wrap my arms around her.
