Going 90 down the freeway while weaving in and out of cars like I have nine lives. The amount of fear I currently feel would do that to any man. I’ve always been told it would be different when you found the one. I never imagined it would be like this. The thought that I might lose her before I really even have her is fucking terrifying. Before I could even tell her that I love her.
I can hear my brothers hot on my heels behind me. They know how I am. I’ll go in guns blazing, ready to burn the world down without a second thought.
It takes us about forty-five minutes to get from where we were outside of Ravenna Heights to Storm’s trailer. We were about five minutes out when I started to smell smoke.
I turn onto Storm’s road when I see a car, matching Storm’s description from the day he was approached, leaving the driveway.
The driveway where all the smoke is coming from.
“Motherfucker,” I hiss, reaching back and grabbing my gun.
I don’t hesitate before I start shooting out their tires before they see me. A shot rings out from behind, nailing the windshield, making the car swerve off the road and fly into a huge oak tree.
“Go!” Hash shouts over the bikes, motioning with his hand. “We got this! They’ll be here for you to deal with!”
I must have blacked out from adrenaline because the next thing I know, I’m body slamming the front door of the trailer that’s on fire, with one end completely up in flames.
“Evan!” I yell over the roar of the flames.“Evan!” “Evan!” I get out once more before the smoke chokes me. Lifting my shirt up to cover my mouth and nose, I move further into the house.
“Help!” I hear from the opposite end of the trailer. The end where the flames haven’t reached yet. My heart feels like it’s about to beat out of my fucking chest as I move toward the screams.
“Evan!” I yelled again before slamming my shoulder against another locked door. “I’m coming, hellcat!”
Two more slams, and I’m in. The splintered door slams against the wall as I try to make out Evan through the smoke. I find her slumped over in a corner.
“Fuck, baby.” I cradle her head in my hands, quickly assessing the situation. I have to swallow down my rage at seeing her face beat to shit. He’ll pay for every one of those marks. “We have to get out of here.”
“Can’t,” she wheezes, making my heart ache. “Ankle.”
Fuck. How did I miss that her fucking ankle is chained to the goddamn wall? I frantically shoot off a text to Cyrus, hoping the cutters are still in the cage.
“Just go.” Her eyes slowly start to close, and I can tell I’m losing her. “Take care of Hades…”
“Evan. You need to stay with me for just a little bit longer, baby.” I gently shake her. I’m full-on freaking out now. I can’t fucking lose her.
“Tired..” she rasps. Her breathing is coming in short pants now.
“Eva—” I start to say again just as I hear the sound of a drill undoing the bars on the bedroom window just enough to smash it in.
“Prez!” Cyrus shouts, holding the cutters through it. “Hurry the fuck up. I couldn’t even get inside the front door.”
I make quick work of cutting the chain off a now passed-out Evan before I gently pick her up and pass her through the window to Cyrus. I follow through and make it out just before the flames barrel into the room.
“I’m going to kill this motherfucker,” I grit out as I take Evan from Cyrus. I’m trying to be as gentle as possible, but it’s a little fucking hard to do while running. “It’s okay. I got you.”
“Cain?” Comes the faintest whisper.
Jesus fucking christ. “Yeah, hellcat. It’s me.”
“Put her in the cage. You can drive back with her, I’ll take your bike,” Cyrus says as he opens the door for me.
“Where’s Storm and the two dipshits?” There’s no way in hell he had time to run back to the clubhouse.
“Look in the back.” Something in his smirk tells me he thinks he just came up with the greatest fucking idea.
I peek in the back, and sure enough, there is Storm and the two dipshits. All three are tied up and weighed down. Mouths covered in tape.
“Nice work. We need to get the fuck out of here. He still alive?”
