Page 17 of Cain

“Come on.” Zeke starts dragging me behind him, picking up on my growing anxiety about the crowd around us.

“Yo, Scotch! Want a shot?” a random dude that is well on his way to being shit-faced yells from over by the bar.

“Later! A little occupied right now!”

I caught Cain’s questioning gaze from across the room, darting between mine and Zeke’s locked hands before I was pulled through the door that leads to the stairs.

“Alright, Ev. Tell me what the fuck is going on,” Zeke says as soon as we are behind the privacy of what I’m assuming is his bedroom door.

“Really, Zeke. It’s not that pressing. I was just stopping by to see if you could help me out with getting some sort of security system for the barn, maybe one with cameras.”

“Why?” His tone had taken on a whole new edge. “You’ve lived there for years now and haven’t said shit about it. Even when I forced you to install the one inside the house.”

It was a fucking stupid idea to come here. Of course he was going to read between the lines and not buy my simple explanation of just wanting some cameras.

“Oh my god. Can’t I just want to upgrade my security system?” I exclaim, throwing my hands up in the air as I start to pace the room.

“No. You fucking can not. A —” he rumbled before getting cut off by his bedroom door bursting open, revealing a very angry Cain. His eyes quickly search the room before settling on us. I visibly see some of the anger leave his body when he notices Zeke and I are feet apart from each other.

Oh my god.

He thought something was going on between us. Did he seriously think we were fucking? Is that why he’s so pissed off? Like he has any sort of fucking right after I caught him with the club girl in his lap.

Zeke shoots Cain a glare as he steps inside the room, closing the door behind him. “As I was saying, the only time a female needs more security than she already has is when she feels unsafe. Now, Evangeline. I’m only going to ask one more time, what the fuck happened?”

Cain’s gaze shoots to Zeke as I cringe at him using my full name. He’s really not going to let this go. So much for Cain seeming like he was starting to calm down. He looks like he’s ready to murder someone again. You would think Hades was in here because of the rumbling that’s coming from that man’s chest. “If you don’t tell him what the fuck happened, I’m going to find out what the fuck happened. And you don’t want me finding out on my own. What fucking happened?” Cain growls, body tight, fists clenched at his sides.

For once, Zeke doesn’t even try to come to my defense. Clearly on Cain’s side. I’m not easily intimidated, but it’s a little fucking scary when you have two angry biker badasses growling at you.

“Okay, okay. Let’s just calm down,” I say as I try to placate them. It doesn’t seem to be working if their stares are anything to go by. “Last night, when I was making dinner, I thought I saw a light from a flashlight or something through the kitchen window out by the barn. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t losing my freaking mind, so I went outside with Hades to—” I get cut off by two growling bikers yelling at the same damn time.

“You should have fucking called me!”

“What the fuck, Evan? You don’t go out there by yourself!”

“Do you guys want to hear the rest or not?!” I yell over them, waiting for them to shut up. “As I was saying, I grabbed Hades and my gun,” shooting a pointed look at both of them so they don’t think I’m a complete idiot, I continue, “before I went outside to look. I quietly commanded Hades to seek while I crept along the treeline because if someone was out there, I didn’t want them to see me. By the time I got close, Hades was growling his ‘I’m going to fuck you up’ growl, and some random fucking dude started up a bike and took off across my yard,” I finish on a big exhale. It feels good to get that off my chest, even if it’s about to bite me in the ass.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” they both say in unison.

“You should have called me immediately,” Cain growls. “I’m not fucking liking this,” Cain says while looking at Zeke, who nods his head in agreement.

“No offense, but you and I aren’t on terms of calling each other for help. I don’t even have your number. It’s also really none of your business,” I say, crossing my arms across my chest, in turn pushing my boobs up. Cain notices the move because his eyes flare as they look down.

“It became my business, hellcat, when you walked your sweet ass into my club and agreed to help us. No one fucks with one of our own.” Cain drags his eyes back up to meet mine. The heat behind them only intensifies.

And damn if my body isn’t betraying me by lighting up. My nipples tighten as I feel heat pool between my legs. Cain’s eyes flare as if he knows exactly how my body is reacting.

“Send Brock out tomorrow to look at what needs to be done,” Cain tells Zeke, breaking our silent exchange.

I decide it’s probably best to leave out the little tidbit about Storm clearly being on something and acting super sus. The two can’t be related, right?

“On it. I’ll pop out with him to see if that mystery dipshit left anything behind.”

“And I want a man on her starting tonight. I know Levi’s sober. I set him on watch duty.” They continue on as if I’m not even here.

Oh, hell no. A random guy I don’t even know will not be staying at my place.

“Um, hello?” I wave my hands in front of their faces. “I’m not having someone I don’t know stay at my place. Don’t I get a say in any of this?”
