The power was out, but there was still enough daylight flitting through the windows from the morning sun.

“What’s on the agenda for today?” I asked, as I stepped into the kitchen with a towel wrapped around my hair. I had jumped in the shower while they got some food together. They had assured me they didn’t require my assistance and told me to get myself cleaned up first.

“I was supposed to have some surf classes, but I postponed those until tomorrow. I’m going to go back out and help clean up the beach.” Chase set plates of toast and eggs on the table while Larsen finished up the bacon.

“Same, I’m going to join in after we eat.” Larsen placed a plate of steaming bacon in the middle of the table and handed me a cup of coffee, which I took before I sat down, melting into the steam of the mug as I sipped. “What about you, did you have anything planned for today?”

Setting the mug on the table in front of me, I began to pile my plate with food. “I was going to go into town, back to the hardware store. There are some loose cabinets I want to fix, and I want to pick up some backup things while I’m at it.” I took a bite of my toast. “Then I’ll join you guys. It should be a quick trip, and it’s my only day off of work for a while.”

“Sounds good, we could go with you,” Chase offered, but I waved it away.

“Not necessary, but thanks though. I already flipped one guy off while I was there for thinking I can’t do shit on my own, and now I feel like I need to stick to that.”

Larsen chuckled. “I bet he enjoyed that.”

“Probably not, but I sure did.”

We finished our breakfast in record time, scarfing it all down like we hadn’t eaten in ages. I didn’t realize how starving I was until that first bite of toast, and then the rest was all a blur of ravenous hunger.

After saying our goodbyes, the guys headed to the beach with a box of trash bags, and I grabbed my bag and headed to my truck.

I made it to the store with no issues, managed to fill my arms with various house fixing materials, and got into the checkout line in record time. Unfortunately, I ended up being in line next to the same guy from last time.

He looked at me with a smug smile. “Need help with anything? I’m sure I could show you your way around a” —he spotted the box of screws at the top of my arm pile— “screw.”

“No, thanks.” I smiled sweetly at him. “My dick is plenty big enough to handle it.”

His eyebrows furrowed. “Keep talking like that and you might never find one.”

“I’ve actually got two on constant standby. Thank you for your concern though.”

The cashier called him over, letting him know he was next in line, and I stood there with the sweetest smile on my face as I waited for him to pay and get the fuck out of there.

While he was checking out, I distracted myself by thinking about the underwater camera I’d just bought and couldn’t wait to put to use. I was going to get some amazing pictures next time I went out into the water with either of the guys.

Eager to return and help out, I was glad to finally be on my way back and pushed for speed as much as this truck would allow. Until the clanking and chugging noises started. Groaning, I pulled off the highway ramp right as smoke started rising from beneath the hood.

I popped the lid and jumped back when I was met with a face full of smoke. “Well, fuck.” I stood there, staring in, with no idea what I was looking at and highly regretting not learning anything other than how to change a tire.

Drinking, I got that down.

Telling people to go fuck themselves, I held the gold medal.

Knowing how to fix a broken-down ancient truck? Nada.

Blowing out a breath, I turned to look at all the passing cars. There weren’t many, but one slowed down just enough that I thought someone was stopping to help me. I ground my teeth when the car slowed just enough for the familiar bearded guy to give me a wide, toothy grin and a wink as he rolled down his window.

“Looks like you have some issues there,” he noted rather unhelpfully.

“Yeah, I’d say I do.”

“I sure hope your dick is big enough to fix it.”

I flipped him off as he drove by with a laugh, and I cursed his unknown name to the winds. Well, this was perfect.
