“It was actually pretty good and went faster than I was expecting.”
“H-How are you done already? You’ve been working all day every other day. Y-You shouldn’t be done yet,” she stammered. Her eyes radiated more heat the longer she stared at me.
I raised an eyebrow at her. “How do you know anything about my schedule?”
She huffed and tried to backtrack. “It’s a busy time. Being summer, it’s prime season for tourists, so naturally you’d be really busy cleaning up after them. You’re the help, after all.”
“Naturally,” I mumbled. “Luckily most people seem to know how to carry a bowl and not be a clumsy bitch.” Larsen stiffened beside me at my words.
The pink thorn in my side and I ended up locked in a stare off, and right when I was strangling the life out of her in my mind, Larsen coughed. “Hey, babe, want to help me pick out some movies? Chase and I haven’t fully decided yet, and he’s still busy with surfing for a little while longer.”
I smiled up at him. It felt like I’d been looking forward to this movie date for an eternity. “Sure, babe, let’s go see what there is to choose from. I can’t wait to spend all night with you.”
Throwing a wink to a huffing Giana who literally stamped her foot when we turned to walk off, I waved and pulled Larsen in the direction of his condo. I felt like I hadn’t seen him in ages, and I was dying for some time with him. We’d only gotten a few brief interactions here and there since what was apparently our first date, and the needy bitch inside me wanted more.
“Thanks for saving me,” he said, as we made our way to his movie collection. He’d bragged about how he had a growing collection but hadn’t had the time to watch most of them, so we were going to finally start making a dent in it for him.
“Glad I could be of service.” I let go of his arm and ran a finger across the first row of titles. “Heads-up, though, I think she likes you.”
He rubbed at his temples. “Yeah, I think she’s been hinting at that. I’ve made it as clear as I possibly can that I’m not interested and never will be. I’m hoping she’ll eventually just accept that and leave it alone.”
“I have no problem straight up telling her to fuck off if it’ll help. Maybe she needs to be told by other people, too, on your behalf.”
He chuckled, and holy hell, he had dimples. I was going to be in trouble. “Thanks, but her parents pretty much own this whole area. I’m worried about pissing her off too much and then ending up out of a home and a job as a result, so I don’t want to be too mean.” He threw his hands up in defense as though he expected me to jump on the offense. “But I promise I have no intention of doing anything with her, ever. If she wants to waste her time on someone who isn’t interested in the slightest, then that’s her own time she’s wasting.”
“Yeah, I get that. But still.” I turned to him with a mischievous grin and bent my fingers in front of me. “I don’t mind taking a bitch down. It keeps my claws sharpened.”
He snickered and pulled me toward him with his arms around my waist. “I have no doubt about that. You’re not someone I’d want to have on my bad side.”
“I would suggest you keep me on your good side. Life would be much more pleasant that way.” I tilted my head up, but before our lips could touch, we were interrupted by a ringing sound. Heaving a heavy sigh, he pulled his phone out of his pocket and answered.
“Hello?”
Turning around to give him some space, I continued to browse his movie selection, silently judging him on his taste in movies as I trailed a finger across the cases. He did have some good ones, and I was most definitely in a mood for an action movie with a badass heroine. One who would set someone’s shit on fire for doing her wrong. I snickered at my own internal dialogue until I heard him hang up.
“Chase called, he’s finishing up and is going to put the gear away and shower, then he’ll be over at your place. We still have some time.”
“Gotcha.” I pulled a couple movies out. “I’m feeling these ones.”
Larsen peered at them and nodded. They were still in sealed cases, so I knew he hadn’t seen them yet either. “Works for me, let’s do it.”
“So are you bringing the popcorn, or is that Chase?”
He paused in his phone tapping and thought about it. “We didn’t really decide.” I raised an eyebrow, and he continued, “You have a microwave though, right? I have some popcorn bags we can bring over. If Chase brings some too, then I guess we’ll be eating a lot tonight.”
I nodded, setting the movies on the counter beside him and making my way to the kitchen. I gave myself a short tour of the area, searching each cabinet for his snack items. It seemed as though the guys weren’t quite as prepared as I’d assumed they would be, and I wanted to make sure we had the ultimate snackage.
To be honest, I was a little disappointed in his lack of chips. “I am most definitely judging you right now. You don’t have a single bag of chips in this place.”
“Yeah…” He rubbed his hand against the back of his neck. “I stopped buying them. Don’t really know why.”
I knew I already had bags of chips and other snack foods at my place, but I didn’t want them to eat me out of the entire pantry. I pulled out various other snacks and junk food that looked good to me. After making a nice pile on the counter, I shut the door and turned around.
Larsen’s grin covered half his face as he watched me.
“Everything alright?” I asked.
He nodded from where he leaned against the counter with his arms crossed. “You just look cute picking out all your favorite snacks.”
