“I know, right?” I laugh. “Also, Marc’s helping me with some office space so that I can start my own business again. So, you’ll even have a job as my secretary. If you want, of course.”
I've been shopping around for office spaces since we’ve been home. Most days, it’s all I do. Marc told me to find the perfect space and he’d take care of the rest, so I’ve been on the prowl for something I know I'll love for years to come.
“Wow.” Mel tears up. “I can’t thank you enough, Fee. I came out here to help you with your life, and you end up helping me tremendously. You're really my best friend and I appreciate you so much for this. Thank you.”
“Aww,” I gleam. “No need to thank me, Mel. We're friends, this is what friends do. Besides, if it weren’t for you, I probably would have gone crazy when Marc and I weren’t on good terms with my dad and all. You helped me out more than you know.”
Now that my decision is made, Marc hires some movers to come over and pack my things to bring back to the life we’re going to build together. It's only my clothes and a few items I love to use in the kitchen. Everything else will stay here to give Mel a great start for her new home.
“I’m happy you’re coming back home,” Marc says, helping me into his car. “It’s been too long without you. I can’t wait to get you there so I can show you what else I've been working on.”
He's so excited as we pull into the driveway and begin to make our way inside. I can barely get out of the car fast enough for him. It makes me laugh, how excited he is. The large cheesy grin on his face lets me know that whatever this surprise is, it’s going to be good.
“Alright, close your eyes.” He places a hand over my eyes and guides me into the house.
“I worked really hard on this,” he says. “If it’s not what you want, we can always make changes, but I think it’s perfect. Are you ready?”
He counts to three and then removes his hands from my eyes. What I see is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. One of the most thoughtful and heartwarming experiences I've ever experienced.
Marc has taken the time to put together an entire nursery all on his own. The colors are perfect, there’s a ton of baby clothes ranging in all sizes hanging in the closet. A changing table. A huge TV mounted on the wall. Baby monitors, shoes, diapers, and everything a newborn baby could ever need.
“How did I do?” he asks, breaking the silence as I walk around the room with my head in the clouds. “Did I get everything we need? I have more stuff coming soon, but this is most of it.”
“You did amazing,” I say, walking into his arms. “This is perfect. I think we have everything we need. Thank you.”
He cradles me in his arms like I'm the newborn baby he’s waiting for. I can’t help but to cry. The sight of all this, the feeling of love Marc gives me, is everything I never imagined. After being in a relationship where I was taken for granted and cheated every time I closed my eyes, I never thought I would find love in a man who’s always been right up under my nose. I certainly never thought we’d be having a baby.
“I have something else for you.” He gently backs away from me and looks me square in the eyes and hands me a set of keys. “I found the perfect office space for you. I won’t show you any pictures. I'll let you take the drive over and check it out for yourself. I know you’ll love it, and it’s already paid for.”
“Marc,” I whine. “You didn’t have to do that.”
“I wanted to,” he says, cutting me off. “I also want to make you the happiest woman in the world for the rest of your life.”
Marc slowly starts to kneel, and I feel my entire body tense up. He's getting down on one knee right in front of me. What the hell is he doing? He's already given me everything, he’s already made me the happiest woman in the world.
“Felicia Delgado,” he says, pulling out the most gorgeous diamond ring I've ever seen in my life. “I want to ask you to be my wife. Right here, right now, in the comfort of our own home, just you and me. I'm asking in private because we’re all that matter. Not your dad, not your mom, not Kyle, not anyone. Just you and me. Most people won’t approve of this, but to hell with them. I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life proving it.”
Oh my God. I can hardly breathe. My heart is pounding in my chest, and I feel like I'm about to explode with excitement. Happiness, joy! Everything I've ever wanted in a man is right in front of me waiting for my acceptance. I'd be a fool not to accept what I know I want, what I love and cherish in the depths of my soul.
“Will you be my wife?” he asks again, holding the ring up a little higher. “I promise to love, honor, obey. I promise to never leave your side when the going gets tough. Through sickness and through health, through the good and bad, I promise to always come home to you.”
“Yes!” I sob and fall into his arms. “Yes! I will marry you!”
We spent the rest of our evening celebrating our engagement. Although my mom, Melissa, the twins or my dad, were not here to watch me accept my diamond ring and my husband to be, they were just as happy to hear about it over the phone.
“Oh my God!” Melissa squeals. “I can’t believe you're finally getting married for real. This man really loves you. I'm so happy for you and can’t wait until the baby gets here.”
“I know right,” I say. “This all feels like a dream. And guess what else! He already found me an office space and bought the building. Can you believe that? I want to go tomorrow to check it out.”
Now that I'm all puckered out and ready for bed, I climb into the large California king and snuggle next to Marc. He's sleeping so peacefully after such a long day. I imagine us being in bed with our baby girl already. The further along I get, the more excited I am to piece our family together.
I rolled out of bed after sleeping so peacefully. Marc has already gone to work, but he left a breakfast tray and roses for me to wake up to. I sniff the roses, snag a piece of bacon from the tray and head to the bathroom to get ready for my day.
Mel is already on her way to pick me up. Since I've gotten further along, I don’t drive much anymore. My belly is too big to fit behind the wheel of the car and Marc forbids me to drive anywhere.
“Hey preggers,” Mel teases me as she opens my door for me. “Are you ready to get this show on the road? I'm excited to see what this new office space is like.”
“Me too,” I say, easing my way into the passenger seat. “Check out my ring. Isn't it beautiful?”
She grabs my hand and studies my ring like a test. Her eyes are wide and scanning over each diamond on the band and the tower.
“This is beautiful!” she says. “I can't wait until I find a man who will knock me up, marry me, and send me into the world already a rich woman.”
We laugh and laugh as we take the drive over to the office site Marc bought for me. I can’t thank him enough for all he’s done and how supportive he is of anything and everything I want to do. For now, I have to be okay with my little village. Marc. My parents. The twins. And Mel. Soon I'll have baby Kylie Rae Josephs to add to this village of mine. We're all so excited to see her and so excited to get on with our wedding. Marc wants to wait until she’s born before we have an actual celebration, because he wants her to be a part of it, and although it isn’t traditional, I fell in love with the idea.
“You really have a good thing here, Fee,” Mel says. “I’m so proud of you for sticking this through and going after a beautiful life. You really deserve it and all the happiness it brings you. No matter what anyone says, or how anyone feels, you two love each other. And that’s all that matters.”
It is all that matters. To me. To Marc. Our family has come together better than I ever imagined it would and I plan to keep it that way.
Always and forever.
