“You still love her? You didn’t say that last night!” Hallie shrilled, but I finally spotted Maddox and paid them no mind.

“Well best of luck to you both.” I did not wait for a response, before heading to Maddox. A hand on my wrist had me jerking to a stop and an eerily familiar man was holding my phone. What the fuck? It had been in my bag the entire night. Which was, of course, somehow now unzipped. And what was with everyone manhandling me?

“You dropped this.” I followed the phone up and up and up to a pair of hooded caramel eyes.

I yanked my wrist free from his calloused fingers and grabbed my phone. I searched for a name tag on the mystery man but didn’t see one. I didn’t have the patience or energy to put anymore into this interaction, even if he was sexy as hell and hauntingly familiar. Especially his eyes. “Thanks.” I murmured the word, before continuing my path to Maddox. I felt the strange man’s intense stare on me the entirety of my retreat.

When I was finally within Maddox’s reach, I pushed myself into his arms. “I need to leave. Butterscotch.”

Maddox stiffened. “What happened? Are you okay?”

“Those aren’t the rules.” Butterscotch was the word I could use to leave a situation with no questions asked.

Maddox gave me an indiscernible look but wrenched out his cell phone and typed out a message furiously. “Let’s go, Oliver knows we’re leaving.”

I gave one more backwards look to the towering man with the caramel eyes. I was shocked to see he was still watching me. He raised his hand and brought a finger to his lips before disappearing out of sight.

Confusion swept through me as a chill crept across my skin, but it wasn’t in fear. It was something else entirely.

Chapter fourteen

Oliver

His Isobel

The man from the plane was here. The fake name he had on all his traveling documents made it difficult for Milo to track his movements, but right as Oliver received the text from Maddox, Oliver spotted him.

Watching his Isobel.

Oliver continued to survey his surroundings and found another man he didn’t know also focused on Isobel’s retreat.

What. The. Fuck.

He cursed; this was a horrible decision. He should have just let her stay at the hotel with Maddox. He hoped this reunion would make her realize how much better she was than all these fools, not throw her in the direction of more unsavory men.

“Ollie.” A shrill whining voice brought his attention back to the disgusting woman in front of him. He tried to relocate both of the men watching his Isobel but could no longer spot either in the growing crowd of drunken alumni.

“Yes dear, here is my card. If you ever need our services let us know.” He pushed it to her distractedly. He couldn’t recall the girl’s name and, as with most of the guests, she opted not to wear a nametag.

“Can I sample the services now?” A fake fingernail dug along Oliver’s skin, and he did his best to contain his rage.

She was exactly the type of person that he hated. A rodent dressed in nice clothes and filled with plastic was still a rodent.

He jerked back and gave her a faux smile. “Sorry dear, I must be on my way.”

The rat went to touch him again, but he was already spinning and disappearing into the crowd. He needed to join his Isobel. And he needed to make sure these two men here wouldn’t be a problem.

Chapter fifteen

Izzy

Iwas finally alone. It took all sorts of threatening, but Maddox eventually left my hotel room. With the promise of being only feet away.

Yara was no longer destroying my toilet, so I sent her a quick text.

Me: You good?

Yara: Better. I’ll know if you bail. You didn’t take it earlier, but don’t worry, check under your pillow <3
