Luke turns sideways in his seat. “Spill, Frank.”

Frank rubs his neck. “Roger got to Beau.”

“Fuck.” Dom hits the steering wheel.

“That was my fault. I was so focused on you guys and the staff that I didn’t check him,” Frank says. “Beau called me about an hour ago. He’s been working with Roger because Roger kidnapped his girlfriend and one-year-old daughter. Beau’s been feeding him information and helped set up the sting at the warehouse. Roger hoped to capture Shelby, but they weren’t prepared for all of us.”

“So, what’s going on at our place?” I clench my fists. I’m going to end him.

“Beau said he was instructed to tie Nick up while Roger beat him,” Frank says. “Afterward, he checked that no one was left in the house.”

“And he did nothing?” Mav rages. “He could have taken Roger out but did nothing?”

“Nick was in and out of consciousness when Roger sent him to check the house. He snagged a gun from Luke’s safe.” Frank scrubs his face. “Then, he heard Shelby scream, and he didn’t want to risk her or Nick’s safety. Roger had a knife to Nick’s throat the whole time. Beau said he couldn’t get a shot off. That’s when he tied Shelby up, but he left the ropes loose and hid the gun under the coffee table.”

Dom swears and beats the steering wheel.

“When Roger ordered him to come out here and help finish the job, he called me to come instead.” Frank takes a deep breath. “Beau found where Roger stashed his girlfriend and baby, so he went to them instead.”

“What’s the plan?” I try to refocus everyone.

“Is he expecting Beau back?” Luke asks.

“Yes,” Frank confirms. “Once he made sure they killed you.”

“Dom, pull over at the gas station by our place,” Luke says. “I have a plan.”

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN

SHELBY

Roger steps outside to take a call. “Yes, Uncle?”

I lean forward. “Nick, are you awake?”

He moans.

“Nick, I need you to wake up,” I say louder.

His eyelids flutter, then he lets out a loud groan. “Fuck.” He snaps to attention, his gaze searching the area. “Where is he?”

“Out talking to his uncle.”

Nick scrunches his eyes close. “Fuck. I knew that’s where his money came from, but I couldn’t prove it.”

“How bad of shape are you in? Can you fight?” I don’t take my eyes off Roger.

“I’ll do what I have to do.” He moans and stretches his neck.

I wiggle around. “Beau didn’t tie me too tightly, so I should be able to loosen these enough to free myself.”

“Beau?” His eyes fly open. He tilts his head back. “He’s the missing piece?”

“Shit, he’s coming back in.” I almost have the ropes untied, and I grab them in my hand so they look tight.

“Oh, I have a surprise for you. Someone wants to meet the person who killed his son.” Roger walks past us and out the front door.

I finish the last knot, and the rope drops to the floor. I run to the kitchen, grab a knife, and head toward Nick. When I pass the coffee table, I run my hand under it to find the gun.
