She glanced at her partner. “We have everything we need, for now. We’ll contact you if we need any more information.”
Officer Bryant held out a card. “If you remember anything else, give us a call.”
Maddy took the card. “Thank you, I will.”
After they left, she sat there, waiting for the nurse with her papers so she could leave.
Was it Mike who hit her? For some reason, she didn’t feel like it was him.
Her door flew open, and Lucca and Torr burst into the room.
“What happened?” Lucca waved his hand in front of her. “I just saw you a few hours ago!”
She stared at her brother and best friend in shock. “How the Hell did you find out I was here? Do you have people watching me?”
“No, silly, but maybe I should. I’m your emergency contact,” he explained. “They called me because you were unconscious.”
Maddy relaxed and told them about the accident.
With tears shimmering in her eyes, Torr sat beside her on the bed, holding her uninjured hand. “Thank goodness you’re alive.”
The doctor came back in with her release papers. “I found you some clothes, since we had to cut you out of yours. If you start to feel off, please come back.”
“I will,” Maddy assured him. “Is there a way you can look up what room Amber Shultz is in?”
“I’m sorry, I’m not allowed to do that, but the maternity ward is on four.” He set the clothes on the bed. “They should be able to help you.”
“Thanks again.” Maddy picked up the shirt, then stared in dismay at her cast. “Torr, do you think you can help me get dressed? I have a baby to meet.”

SKYLAR
Three Hours Earlier
Skylar lay on the couch, tossing the remote up and catching it.
The last two weeks of waiting for Amber to go into labor had him bored out of his mind. On the days when Cody was working on his flips and the others were at school, he had nothing to do.
When his phone rang, he eagerly sat up and grabbed it off the coffee table. Excitement and annoyance rushed through him when he saw Amber’s name on the screen.
Man would he be glad when his child was born. She had been driving him up the wall with her constant demand, but one of these times, she’d have to be in labor.
He hit the answer button. “Amb—”
“Get your ass ov— Aaaaahhhhh!”
Skylar jerked the phone away from his ear until she stopped screaming.
“It’s time, Skylar,” she panted. “My water broke, and I’m in paaaaain.”
He leaped up. “I’ll be right there!”
He hung up and ran to the kitchen, then stood in the middle, looking around.
Why did he come in here?
Shaking his head, he ran upstairs to his room, then stood there looking around.
