“I intend to have you in reach of the bed at all times for the next seven-to-nine months. I feel like celebrating,” Layla whispered, climbing up him until his paws gripped her cheeks and pressed her into him.
Rupex snickered, a soft huffing chortle that she loved. It made his teeth gleam and his eyes squint like little golden half moons.
“You’ll be busy studying for your course entrance exam, and then the course, which is a six-month program. With a bit of our one-in-a-galaxy luck, you ought to be taking your finals just before the cubs arrive. Or cub. You know I’ll be happy with just one, don’t you?”
“I do know. And I’m happy I get to take my exam. I’m not just going to sit around and study though. If I’m not allowed to get my Leonid lovefest fix, then I’d better distract myself. Are the flight plan amendments all set up?”
“Oh, no. I’ve completely neglected them. I was so worried about you.” Rupex took her hand between his paws. “You’ve ruined me, Layla.”
She hung her head. Layla knew she had changed him, but she hoped he wasn’t secretly regretting it. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. I wouldn’t change a thing.”
Chapter Twenty-Five
Rupex looked over the course plotted in front of him. Astral Navigation was one of his strengths, but he hadn’t had to use it in over a month.
The ship’s electronic voice spoke the commands as he entered them, asking for confirmation at each step.
“Flight Plan 486-Comet Stalker, initiated. Coordinates set for Destination A: Milky Way Intergalactic Port. Purpose: Collection of Crew Personnel and supplies. Confirm with Captain’s bio-identification or code, please.”
Rupex put his right paw flat on the sensor. A few days before their arrival, Wendy, Dax, and Elio would be free agents. A travel allowance addendum had been included in their contracts, stating Rupex would pay their fares on shuttle craft that would take them from Sapien-Three to the Milky Way Intergalactic Port at the outer reaches of their galaxy. They were slated to arrive there several hours before the Comet Stalker was due to dock in its designated temporary berth. In addition to finding the trio and getting them through the Galactic Port Authority, they would also need to collect food, medical supplies Marcus had requisitioned, and an entire wardrobe for Layla, both maternity wear and regular clothing.
“Confirmed. Destination B: Leonid-One, Bastet Bay Space Port. Purpose: Collection of Crew Personnel and collection of supplies. Confirm with Captain’s bio-identification or code, please.”
Rupex studied the coordinates and reread the contracts on another screen before lowering his paw. Yes, he had enough time. He had arranged to meet the various Felid members at Bastet Bay Space Port in three weeks’ time. With luck, Jaxson would be able to join them there, but it was possible that the Sirius Federation would keep their citizens grounded for longer and they’d have to rendezvous at another point.
A ten-day flight in hyperthrust to the MWIP, then ten days back to Leonid-One... it would be tight, but they would have a day to spare.
“Destination C: Lynx-Nineteen. Purpose: Cargo run and disbursement of freight and supplies. Confirm with Captain’s bio-identification or code, please.”
Rupex smiled as he pushed his paw down for the third and final time and felt the engines hum to life.
“Five more minutes?” Layla’s soft voice entreated.
“Layla, you’ve had all day on the beach,” Ru protested, even though he wanted to give in.
“Five minutes won’t ruin the flight plan. I know that. I’m an Information Officer trainee, remember?”
His petite partner strode in, mid-section looking slightly prominent in the black strapless dress she wore.
“If we make good time, we get a day at Leo Falls with Wendy, Elio, and Dax,” Rupex countered.
That sold her. “Put this baby in hyperthrust.”
“Already engaged. Are you sure you’re not angling for First Mate?” Rupex teased.
“I’m already the first mate. Your first mate.”
“My only mate.” Rupex remained in his seat to ease the Comet Stalker off the ground. “We have to move, my Queen. We need to get your friends. Our family. I know you want them to be here for our wedding.” He closed his mouth after that. He wanted to get married at once! But Layla had become good friends with Cherie, the beautiful, feisty woman who was married to the Lynxian on Lynx-Nineteen and was now friends with several other women in human-Felid couples. Layla was holding off on a wedding until her old friends from Sapien-Three and her new friends from Lynx-Nineteen could join them in a simple ceremony on Leo Falls. The huts would be bridal suites. The Comet Stalker would be a makeshift hotel.
It was all very... emotional. Very human. Very unnecessary.
So why did he keep smiling?
“You used the W-word. That’s becoming your secret weapon.” Layla pouted, sitting on his knee, rubbing her delectable cheeks against him.
Before he could blink, she was leaning far forward, rubbing the mound of her pussy to his knee in tight circles, seeking stimulation. A waft of warm, aroused womanhood almost made Rupex exceed initial altitude and send the Comet Stalker nose up into the sky. “Layla!” He took the craft back in hand, leveling it out and lining it up for a gradual increase and eventual break through of the planetary atmosphere.
