“I love him, and I know the cheating will stop after we graduate. He’s partying and living that college frat boy life.”

Fuck that.

There’s no excuse for cheating on your girlfriend. No matter if you're a drunk college student or not.

“I’m going to talk to him.” She doesn’t sound too sure of herself. “I need to stand up to him and tell him this is it. If he can’t change his ways, then I’m done. I won’t follow him to Utah. I can have a pick at a better team.”

The more she talks, the angrier I’m getting, but I bite my lip to stop myself from saying anything. She’s too good to be slumming it with a horrible team just to be close to her boyfriend, who treats her like crap.

If she doesn’t stand up for herself, she’s going to ruin her life.

“When he gets back, I’m going to have a serious conversation with him.”

“I hope it goes well,” I encourage her while biting my tongue to stop what I’d really like to say.

“I hope so too.”

Her house is quiet, but still lit up when I park the car to drop her off. The Hockey House will still be in party mode. I’ll end up sleeping in my car out in the parking lot down the street to avoid it.

“If you need me to kick his ass, let me know. I’d be happy to do it.” I joke and try to lighten Willa’s mood again.

“I’m sure you would.” She punches my arm. “See ya around, dick.”

“Later, prude.” She looks back at my nickname for her. “Any other time I’ve been out with a girl, they’ve put out.” I shrug.

She flips me off, yet again, as she heads for the door. Waving me to go with a gleeful smile spread over her face.

I did what I sought out to do. I made up for being a total jerk for kicking her when she was already down. My good deed for the year is done.

Chapter 7

Willa

“I don’t want to talk about that.” Vic stands from his bed and pulls his jeans on. “We have months to figure that shit out.”

All I said was that the team in Utah was interested in signing me. I didn’t even mention anything about graduation or ask what his plans are.

“I’m not.” I pull the sheet up to cover my bare chest. “I was just excited.”

He picks up his shirt and gives me that look that he knows exactly what I’m thinking about.

“You’ve been finding ways to bring it up and are ruining our last fall semester.” He pulls his shirt on and sits on the edge of my bed. “We have less than a month left before winter break. I have to worry about the ski trip and finals. This discussion can wait.” He pouts and smooths my hair back away from my face.

Last week it was Drake’s birthday he was planning for, and now with that done, it’s something else.

“And we have that party tonight.” He smiles at something on his phone.

“I have a game tonight.”

“Huh?” He’s not even listening.

“You said you’d be there.” I attempt to get his attention by rubbing his knee. “You’re coming to my game, right?”

“I thought it was a day game.” Vic puts his phone down and runs his hand through his thick dark unruly hair. I used to think the messy look was sexy. Now, it just looks lazy.

“It’s a night game. The guys have a day game.” Getting annoyed, I sit up to find my clothes. “You said you’d be there.”

Vic hasn’t made one game this semester. Not a single one.
